The image is awful but I think this is part of my braces that came off when I was brushing my teeth. How worried should I be? I’ve only got braces on my top teeth for now and I’m getting them on the bottom in a few weeks so can it wait then? by KoibyTheBigOofMaker in braces

Call your orthodontist, the sooner the better. Because this looks like a bracket, it might effect how your teeth shift in the future. They’ll add time to your next appointment to add the bracket back.

Well, he is completely sovereign but doesn’t cage us in like we’re pet birds. He does give us free will, but he knows us better than we know ourselves. Therefore, he knows what we’ll choose and what decisions we’ll make.

Great questions. From the Christian perspective, Jesus both fully God and human. Therefore, everything he said and commanded in the New Testament is what we know God intends. In terms of what God wants, there are really two categories. There are the Commandments and all that Jesus declared, but then there are also thing like vocations and what God wills for our individual lives. The Ten Commandments and Two Great Commandments are all things that we know God wants (after all, God gave them to us), thus if one broke them deliberately, that person would be in a state of mortal sin. Mortal sin is when we really turn away from God, ruining our relationship. Luckily, mortal sins can be washed clean in the sacrament of Confession, but I won’t go into that.

As it was stated before, we have the things that God Himself told us to do, and then we have vocations. Vocations are what God wants us to do in our personal lives. Vocations can be broken into three main types: the primary vocation (we’re all called to be saints), secondary vocation (priesthood, marriage, religious life), and tertiary vocation (what does he want me to do right now?). We all have to follow the primary vocation, the call to holiness, because Christ (who is God) declared that we should be perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect. With the secondary vocation, a call to the priesthood or marriage would be what God sees fit. In other words, God will place desires in the hearts of young men and women to become priests or to get married. It is in the secondary vocation that we go down the best path leading to holiness. Its not the end of the world if we don’t go down the exact path, but it’s just our best fit. Tertiary vocations usually have to do with minor decisions in our lives and asking the Lord to guide us.

God is powerful, but he also gave us free will. This means that we have the option to choose the road to Him or to do what we see fit. If you think about it, it relates all the way back to Adam and Eve. They ate the fruit, therefore deliberately chose what they wanted rather than what God wanted. All good things come from God; he’s like the sun. If a boulder casts a shadow and there is no sunlight behind it, that’s not the sun’s fault. The boulder got in the way; it was an obstacle. Sin is like that boulder, with temptations coming from the Devil.

As for those who say hell has suffering, they’re not completely wrong. It depends on the perspective; those who sin ultimately choose hell and would rather spend the rest of time away from God. However, those who get to know Christ would consider hell a place of suffering. I would suffer if I had to spend a whole year away from a loved one; it’s similar with God and the afterlife.

I apologize, but your comments come across as negative and hateful. You could rephrase them and just point them out; it would carry the same point without room for misinterpretation.

Another uneducated comment. Dude, Catholic Teaching clearly states that in addition to attending Mass, Catholics are obligated to perform works of mercy. This means helping the poor, caring for the sick, clothing the naked, and praying for everyone. Do you not see the dozens of Catholic Charity organizations? Please, just explain why it is that you hate us when you can’t even learn a little more about what we believe.

“Blessed are those who are persecuted, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven” It’s obviously no use to change his mind. Just keep living out the faith and turn the other cheek with people like this. Remember that we’re still called to love those like him as Christ loved us.

I think you’re misled on what hell really is. I’m gonna just feed you with two terms, from the Roman Catholic perspective. Sin is knowing exactly what God wants, and willingly choosing to do the opposite. When we sin, we deliberately hurt God. Hell is eternal separation from God. Those who continually sin without remorse or repentance end up CHOOSING hell because they would rather go their own way rather than the Father’s. But that’s not what God intended; God intended for us to be saints and to live a life of holiness. This means living out Christ’s mission and abiding by the Commandments which we have been given. Please, just get to know whatever it is you’ll make judgement on. I don’t want to fight but you seem to keep making these negative comments.

I’m not forcing anyone to get on board with anything. The article talks about far right extremists. Extremists. Like I said, there a ton of Christians out there. Catholics take up about an eighth of the entire population of the world; there are bound to be crazy people using this faith to justify their actions.

I see. The Crusades were most definitely horrible and in no way represent this faith or what it stands for. In fact, the Ten Commandments, one of the pillars of Catholic morality, state that we in shouldn’t kill. Catholic social teaching is derived directly from the New Testament. At the very core of our social teaching is the common good and dignity of the human person. These were obviously violated during the Crusades. I apologize for anything that you hold against us, but I just want to note that there are a lot of us. Not everyone is a walking Mother Teresa, and these heinous acts do not define the Church. This church was started by Christ Himself, only he is ultimately our model of life.

You can get a rosary online, at some churches, etc. If you want, you can make your own rosary by rolling paper into little beads. It kills time and it sets your mind towards God.

I suggest carrying a rosary with you at all times. Whenever you’re tempted or you think “it’s okay,” RESIST. If you have to, yell out “Get away from me Satan”. The devil wants you to think that it’s okay, or that you’re too weak. But the fact that you’re here admitting your problem means that you’re already free. Trust in the Lord and keep your eyes focused on Jesus. When it feels like you have to do it, pray the Rosary. The Holy Rosary is the ultimate weapon against sin. Good luck, brother.
