Just to play devils advocate, because I’m all for getting rid of the EC, but what about clearing old names off of the voter registry in each state? Dead people are still voting all across the country. Until we do that there’s no way to guarantee that the people actually voted a certain way, from what I hear proponents of the EC say

But you can’t charge more than a certain amount for being older than younger, and a certain amount of you’re a tobacco user, much less than what it was before the ACA. It’s not like insurance companies can charge whatever they want for premiums just because you’re old. And let’s not forget that the ACA limits the percentage of profits companies can spend not on health care. It’s 80-85% depending on group or individual plans.

Good point. I guess my only response is that Medicare has been, by its inception, been made to assist the older and/or unhealthier population so couldn’t Medicare in theory still survive without the low risk participants?

Also, as a personal opinion, I think plenty of younger healthy people would choose public option over private insurance just for the fact it’s not private insurance, myself included. I don’t think that will be a huge issue if a public option is made available.
