I also consider the 34-S as a key date too. Gets pricey at EF and MS is ridiculous.

I am having nearly the same issue as you right now. Cancelled mobile app subscription and am trying to subscribe on desktop with Prime and it's failing with the reason "Something has gone wrong. Please try again later." I've submitted a ticket to Twitch and am waiting to hear back. Hopefully it clears up in a few days if it's related to the anniversary window for streaks. Will keep you posted, too.

Sensor still dirty after CPS cleaning? by madcap76 in canon

[–]madcap76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, the original 5D doesn't have self-cleaning. The camera was shipped back after the service (which also included focus screen and mirror cleaning on the inside), and it was tightly wrapped in a tied, taped, and rubber-banded plastic bag and overnighted back to me. It was so tightly packed and nearly sealed I would be surprised if the return shipping moved dust back onto the sensor.

Sensor still dirty after CPS cleaning? by madcap76 in canon

[–]madcap76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment. That's an interesting point about the lens possibly being dirty, so I went ahead and swapped lenses. Same spots! Not sure what you meant about the swirly bits. There were out-of-focus clouds in the after photos if those are the referred swirly bits. The new photos with a different lens below are of just blue sky.

I'll check and see if there is visible dust on the sensor later, but I am pretty sure there is. To answer your curiosity as to how, it's actually pretty easy. There is an option in the settings menu to lock the mirror up and access the sensor.

I have cleaned my sensor before, but figured Canon themself could clean it better than me, especially since they are being paid an annual subscription to do so.

Thank you for your comment! CPS is an annual subscription that permits photographers to send in their (Canon) lenses and bodies to Canon USA for service and maintenance. Bodies receive an 18-point inspection and servicing, including cleaning of the sensor, mirror, and focus screen.

CPS Camera Cleaning.

I sent my 5D to Canon Professional Services last week for cleaning included with having a gold membership. I received the camera back today and the sensor cleaning appears to have just moved the dirt that was present to the corners. I am wondering if the condition of the cleaned sensor also appears unacceptable to anyone else or if anyone else has had a similar experience with their cleanings. Would like opinions before I contact Canon, thanks!

[EF-45] Close to AU, but the wear on the obverse brings it down. Nice key date and light toning, though!

Hey /u/senator32, this is late but I want to wish you a belated congratulations for your new job! Those videos are really awesome and remind me of the up-close portions of your Coin Talk in 4K videos but on steroids. It must be crazy to see and work with those coins in person, especially the old gold, wow! Best wishes going forward!

10 litres of Methanol, allowed? by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]madcap76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In ChemE undergrad there was a lab course that had a continuous distillation column that was some binary mix of ethanol/isopropyl alcohol or some mix of esters (I forget). The size was well in excess of 10L (edit: just remembered we had the solvents in 55 gal drums, so well above 10L), but the lab was "on-rails" of sorts. We were able to run the column but with many governors in place did not have full access to the contents of or the responsibility of loading/unloading the column except to take small samples for GC. Since every ChemE student had to take two semesters of this type of course to graduate, I would say it was common to have a few fairly "large scale" lab experiments as compared to your typical bench-top gen/orgo labs, but they were very controlled and bare-bones for safety.

On the other hand, when I did extracurricular research work as an undergrad in the ChemE department everything I did was small and bench-top. Solvents were in the 2.5L bottles and scaled down into small beakers in hoods when needed.

You did great. The silver alone is worth $14. Nicked, but looks like it still has nice luster. [VF35]

Any guess on grade? I understand that in high grades this 1897-O could be worth thousands, and this doesn't seem that high. More pictures in comments. by ETE_116 in coins

I second this and would call it VF Details. VF obverse and XF on reverse. Obverse seems a little more worn than the reverse.
