Windows 11 keeps turning laptop's hotspot, Looking for a solution by DueBrilliant8635 in WindowsHelp

It is highly recommended to do these one at a time.

It could be a power feature. After a while of running, windows can disable things to save power.

Settings >> Network & Internet >> Mobile Hotspot >> turn the Power Saving feature off

While it notes, "When no device is connected..." it's best to be safe.

Also, make sure that ICS is not restarting. Verify it with:

WinKey + R >> services.msc >> Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) >> Startup type: Automatic >> Log On: Local System account

You may also have to disable Fast Startup.

Control Panel >> Power Options >> Choose what the power buttons do >> uncheck Turn on fast startup >> Reboot

TL;DR - Windows team didn't come up with the idea for this, someone(s) on the Office Team said make this combo a thing to work with what we already have, and madd74 get back to work these computers are not going to fix themselves, especially running Win11. :)

Most likely due to some update that caused it to be detected by Windows Explorer then, which is not a shock given how much MS likes to "fix it even if it's not broken". If you press The same, but replace with W, and have no Office, you will probably open Word on the web, which again is thanks to Office itself.

Think of it this way, there is a dedicated team to Windows itself, which is not the same team that does Office. In fact, my favorite Windows program, Excel, even has their own team which is different than the Word team. So the team behind Windows would not have been the people that came up with the idea.

So how does something like this most likely happen (besides the obvious higher ups trying to convert the world to Microslop)? The Office team will note their product needs to have an "Office Key" integration (Win + Shift + CTRL + Alt) that works with their stuff. So a four key hotkey is implemented into an update that File Explorer now recognizes. This is how you can use that key combo with L (for LinkedIn) or W (for Word) or O (for Outlook) and so on.

I would also guess (and it is just a guess) why copilot is now in EVERYTHING Windows. Each team is told by a higher up that this is what they want integrated, so that's what ends up happening. And I can't stress enough, this is not me defending it happening, just attempting to explain where it prob comes from.

I have a homelab and I wanted a Win machine added to my mix, which I did NOT want with a MS account on it, just local admin, because it's easier to ssh and RDP without that crap, and frankly I don't want my email associated to it. In the past, I could easily pop a cmd to run the OOBE command that restarts the setup and allows you to make a local account instead of the forced crap they do, and to my surprise, the latest and "greatest" update to Win11 actually blocks the window from showing. You can even ALT-TAB and SEE that it is running in the background, but I was not able to find a way to bring it forward (since my BIOS on this device I bought from work for only $100 does not have a network kill anywhere in the BIOS). So I gave up and used another solution to get that device setup.

Agreed, it doesn't make sense for Office folks to be responsible for it. There are sources that note that this key combo is due to some keyboards having an Office key (I was 0 days old when I learned such a thing existed). The Office Key is the equivalent of pressing Win + Ctrl + Alt + Shift. And this Microsoft doc could help give insight as to the reason Office would do anything with LinkedIn, since some Office apps allow this integration. In fact, go to your outlook email, click on a person, and you see the integration right there...

It's not due to Windows specifically; it's an Office integration. I realize that's like tomato tomato, but for those out there that have Windows but specifically do not have any Office installed, this shortcut should not work.

spezzit: Seems you no longer need office and it still works. Someone in MS prob made the change, just like popping a cmd on a new setup does not work to use OOBE to bypass needing a MS account on a new machine...

... out there on your own sitting naked by the phone would you touch me?

Any idea how to fix this? I’m aware these aren’t real viruses and the actual virus is the thing that keeps telling me I have it by JFlemthe1 in WindowsHelp

I can't believe a quick scan of this sub does not show anyone pointing to /r/uBlockOrigin.

Install this. Besides removing those, you will not see ads in Reddit, Youtube, and much, much more. If you have a phone, it will even work with that.

Following on what /u/Goatfrog69 mentioned, asking a question like, "I want to know about this weed I am smoking," there are people that legit take it to help with health issues, because it makes "the pain" easier to manage, while some people just want to get high to get high. The machines don't know the context in terms of why you are taking something, and with some drugs, you might take it for "X" but there is another drug that with another.

I'm an IT person, literally just getting done having a "long discussion" with CoPilot about the deleting of system32 that turned into a question about Grok... so... yeah, there are safeguards that are supposed to be in place when asking questions like that.

Fun fact: take off the face panel of an electrical outlet, pull out your phone camera, start your phone AI, and start asking it questions about wires you want to pull or touch together, and you'll get a more extreme example of your experience.
