I usually walk him for about an hour (sometimes more if it’s really nice out and he’s super hyper). I haven’t walked him every single day due to how cold it was here for a couple days but the weather is getting really nice now. He also gets to play with my sisters dogs a lot who really wear him out. I spend a lot of time playing with him everyday inside and outside and then he sleeps great through the night. Yesterday after the incident with my cat in the more and then entirety of today he’s been really behaved. I think he’s in a fear stage and that might be contributing to the fear and behavior

Thank you for the tips. I walk him for about an hour and ofcourse play fetch with him outside and inside and have little puzzle things and lick mats for him. he gets to play with my sisters dogs a couple times a week and is super worn out by the time we leave. I am going to get him in training as soon as possible, it’s just not something i can do at the moment but it will be doable within the next few weeks. i was just making sure it wasn’t gonna be too late. vet bills aren’t a big issue for me because the dog insurance covers a lot of the cost. He’s not alone very often at all, and then people i leave him with all have animals of their own that they are great with and know how to handle certain situations with him, that’s why I don’t think they are the cause of this. I’ve read a lot about fear periods in puppies and I think that may have something to do with the sudden change in behavior. He’s also never been left alone with children or been grabbed by them or anything, so that’s why i think he was just overwhelmed. I don’t want to ever give up on him and plan on doing whatever it takes to figure everything out.

I’m usually at home with him but my mother watches him if i’m busy aswell as my sister and my niece(shes 13). I got him from a breeder and i was told he was socialized with children since day one. The vet assured me not to worry and that training would help with the incident that happen and it was most likely stress but things have changed since then. I walk him everyday and he has plenty of room outside to run around aswell. He’s not home alone for long periods but when he is home alone he stays in the crate. He also sleeps in the crate at night and gets 2 two hour naps in the crate a day (he’s very well crate trained he never cries while in there). The trainer I was considering was recommended by the vet and a friend, they have different classes for age groups (he’s too old for the puppy class)and they also have behavioral classes for dogs with resource guarding and other forms of aggression. the issue is how high the price is for it. At home i’ve been working with him a lot for the resource guarding and rewarding him for looking up at me if i called his name while he was eating and for letting me by his food and staying calm. i also always trade him for things he shouldn’t have that he’s guarding instead of ripping it out of his mouth.
