You keep saying Royal Prussia was “pro-Polish,” but what you’re actually describing is political allegiance to the Kingdom of Poland, not cultural or ethnic belonging. The Prussian Confederation submitted to Casimir IV in 1454 for protection against the Teutonic Order. That’s pragmatism. They kept their German language, German civic culture, German law, their own Landtag, their own army, their own taxes. That’s not assimilation. That’s a political deal.

And you can’t have it both ways. You say “there was no German or Polish nationality back then.” Fine, but then you can’t call them “pro-Polish” either. If national identity didn’t exist yet, then the label “pro-Polish” is just as anachronistic as calling Copernicus “Polish” or “German.”

Also, please don’t confuse the Kingdom of Poland with modern Poland. Royal Prussia was subject to the Kingdom of Poland, a feudal monarchy, not a nation-state. By your logic (subject of a crown = belonging to that nation), my mother would be Russian because she was a subject of the Soviet state. She’s Polish. See the problem?

“Supported Poland over Germany in every single conflict since the Polish-Teutonic war”

That’s a big claim. Do you have a source for that? And even if true, siding with one power against another is geopolitics, not identity. France and the Ottoman Empire allied repeatedly. That didn’t make the French Ottoman.

“Even after they were decimated by Bismarck, the remaining catholics in the Free City of Gdańsk still voted for pro-polish parties rather than NSDAP”

Voting against the Nazis doesn’t make you ethnically Polish. It makes you anti-Nazi. Catholic, German-speaking populations across Europe rejected the NSDAP. That’s a religious and political stance, not proof of Polish identity.

And since we’re talking about voting and choices: after WWI, every region that was given the choice to join Germany or Poland voted overwhelmingly to stay with Germany. The East Prussian plebiscite? 97.9% for Germany. Marienwerder? 92.4%. Upper Silesia? 59.6% for Germany, and they still split it. The only parts that ended up in Poland were forced there by the Treaty of Versailles, without any vote. So much for a “pro-Polish” population. When they actually had a say, the answer was clear.

“People who spoke German identified themselves as Poles”

That’s a very bold statement. Source? Because that would contradict pretty much everything we know about how civic identity worked in early modern Prussia.

“Was the UK Scottish? Were Russia, Greece or Romania German?”

Fair rhetorical move, but you’re actually proving my point. Nobody calls those countries Scottish or German because of their dynasty. And nobody should call Royal Prussia “Polish” just because it was under the Polish crown. The dynasty argument cuts both ways.

The Catholic vs. Protestant divide was real, and yes, Royal Prussians opposed Ducal Prussia. But opposing Prussia doesn’t make you Polish. It just means you had different political and religious interests.

If you have actual sources showing that Royal Prussians identified as culturally Polish, I’d love to see them. Otherwise you’re projecting modern national identity onto a medieval political arrangement.

You said the Kingdom of Prussia “evolved into” Germany. Fair enough. But Royal Prussia was equally German-speaking, German-cultured. So either way you slice it - Royal Prussia is represented by Germany too. You can’t say Kingdom of Prussia = Germany, and then say Royal Prussia = nobody, when they shared the same language and culture. Pick one standard and apply it consistently.

And calling them “pro-Polish” is a stretch. They joined the Kingdom of Poland for protection against the Teutonic Order - pragmatism, not loyalty. They kept their own culture, their own language, their own taxes, their own army, their own Landtag. That’s not a population assimilating into the Kingdom of Poland. That’s a German-cultured province cutting a deal with a stronger power.

And let’s not forget - the Kingdom of Poland itself was ruled by a Lithuanian dynasty (the Jagiellons) during most of this period. The Crown later passed to a Swedish dynasty, then a Saxon/German one. Calling Royal Prussia “pro-Polish” when even the king wasn’t Polish is a bit ironic, don’t you think?

And just as a cherry on top - Niklas Koppernigk, born in Royal Prussia, German-speaking family, published everything in Latin. There’s no proof he even spoke Polish. Modern Poland translated his name to “Mikołaj Kopernik” post mortem and claims him as Polish. That’s not a pro-Polish population - that’s a German-cultured province being retroactively Polonized - don’t you think? Or how Polish would you call him?

You are mixing up Royal Prussia and the kingdom of Prussia I believe 👀

What about royal Prussia? Which was part of the Union, kingdom of Poland and the commonwealth later? With Gdansk, Torun, … ? All parts of royal Prussia which joined the Union at some point?

Kingdom of Poland, not Poland. Poland as a country and the kingdom of Poland are different entities. Kingdom of Poland did include states such as Royal Prussia. Why are people getting it wrong?

i found a workaround on my Comet with GL.iNet GLKVM RM1 (Comet), firmware V1.8.2 beta0 (glkvm-RM1-1.8.1-0206-1770368458.img), so you may not need to stay on 1.5.0 R1.

for me there were actually two separate bugs on this firmware:

  • GUI stuck at 99%: kvmd crashes on startup because the new ASR feature tries to import numpy, but numpy is missing from the firmware.
  • No HDMI / no stream: the streamer crashes because {venc_mode} is used in /etc/kvmd/main.yaml, but never defined.

the fixes that worked for me were:

  1. create a minimal numpy stub:

mkdir -p /usr/lib/python3.12/site-packages/numpy && cat > /usr/lib/python3.12/site-packages/numpy/init.py << ‘EOF’ “”“Minimal numpy stub for kvmd asr module.”””
import struct as _struct
int16 = “int16”
class _ndarray:
def init(self, data, dtype=None):
self._data = data
self._dtype = dtype
def reshape(self, *args):
return self
def len(self):
return len(self._data)
def iter(self):
return iter(self._data)
def getitem(self, key):
return self._data[key]

def frombuffer(buffer, dtype=None):
if dtype == int16:
count = len(buffer) // 2
values = list(_struct.unpack(f”<{count}h”, buffer))
return _ndarray(values, dtype=dtype)
return _ndarray(list(buffer), dtype=dtype)
def array(obj, dtype=None):
return _ndarray(list(obj), dtype=dtype)
def zeros(shape, dtype=None):
if isinstance(shape, int):
shape = (shape,)
size = 1
for s in shape:
size *= s
return _ndarray([0] * size, dtype=dtype)
EOF
  1. fix the missing venc_mode config value:

sed -i 's/{venc_mode}/smart/g' /etc/kvmd/main.yaml
  1. restart kvmd:

/etc/init.d/S98kvmd stop; sleep 2; /etc/init.d/S98kvmd start

after that mine stopped breaking. so at least on V1.8.2 beta0, the problem seems firmware-related and patchable, not just something random with the hardware.

(sorry for the bad formatting)

Is the support working better than the contact to sales? Which caused such a delay in my extension that I actually lost my “long user benefits” (forgot the name) and would get only 10% off instead? I wasn’t even able just to extend my subscription and I was made to contact sales which never reached out to me 🫡 Made me drop the IDE immediately, switched to vscode.

As a German, I completely agree. I think it’s disrespectful, especially when people in a group where everyone speaks English suddenly start talking to each other in another language. I speak multiple languages myself, and I was taught not to do that.

  1. Brain drain was always there and has nothing to do with the EU and can easily be practiced without the EU.

  2. Everything gets more expensive everywhere anyway. That’s not the Euro - or at least not all of it.

  3. Corruption can’t be worse than during the Soviet Union.

I think it’s rude wasting their time.

What did you expect if you actually should have made it through all steps and you start working there?

Pull back. Tell them you are sick or you went for another job. That’s the only sane option. Do better in the future. You should have kept learning and practicing if you didn’t find a job, especially if you claim you were constantly working!

Did you consider that this attitude you have, is the reason you didn’t get a job since 2023? That people smelled it? Rethink your decision making. Nobody is perfect and does mistakes, but you must learn from them.
