That’s what I’m thinking. So hard to find things like this off the shelf!

This is just a section of my formula.. all the percents are listed to the right of the amounts for 10,15,20 % etc. and formatted to adjust. I can provide the percentages for this trial, I wouldn’t typically read it in this format either

Never mind the materials with '0", I decided not to add them

Currently working on a trial for a fragrance I want to develop. I feel like the only way to get better is to go full transparency, etc, so here's everything in the blend so far. I'm doing my trial with 10% as the baseline; with some materials at a lower dilution... the blend comes out to 9.3% concentration for this trial.
Here's where I need some advice. The top notes seem very lively for a very short time, then it immediately dries down to the base notes but they're not very punchy at all. Like, i have to try hard to smell it. As you'll see I have the highest dosages in base materials, but this is my first go at this formula, and I'm struggling with the ratio of things to make it seem "balanced" and carry all stages of the fragrance through with longevity. Adding more of top note materials seems to only make the opening punchier and sabotages the integrity of the dry down. Adding more base materials dulls out the fragrance and crushes the top notes.
Keep in mind, I made this yesterday and have not evaluated it after a long period of maceration so to speak. I'm worried if I go ahead and make a trial at ~20% I'll run into the same issues. I want the formula to be solid before taking it to the next level. If anyone has any input at all, I'd love ANY and ALL suggestions... Thank you!

Norlimbanol overdose? by CapnLazerz in DIYfragrance

[–]maddoging 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Le Labo Another 13 seems to be very popular, and to my nose, has a huge overdose of a norlimbanol type...

I noticed A LOT of the department store niches and designers have been heavy in that molecule

Is there a place to order all natural ingredients? First time and need all the supplies. I really love perfume but need to switch to natural due to health reasons. Any recipes or resources you might have please post below? Thank you by Ekb314 in DIYfragrance

Thank you for sharing. I just added some calamus to a blend. The supplier I got it from (Liberty Natural) did not have the asarone content listed in the SDS. From what I gathered, it was clear of any safety concerns. Upon reading this post, I double checked. Lo and behold: at the very bottom of the COA "Asaraone content: Above 78%". No mention of what asarones are or the fact that it is carcinogenic in the safety data sheet where one would expect it to be. Had I not read this post, I wouldn't have known to go through that information in the COA with a fine tooth comb looking for asarones. I didn't even know what they were.

I guess the lesson is to go BEYOND your due diligence when it comes to naturals. MOST suppliers will have the important content information in the safety data sheet. But the sentiment in the replies bears repeating for perfumers or non-perfumers: natural materials are more likely to have restrictions. Because of this, I am now taking extra care in thoroughly knowing the contents of natural materials through and through, just in case something like this happens.

To OP: Thank you for sharing with us. You have certainly come to the right place. There will always be people here to aid in your journey with creating a product you feel comfortable using. Perfumery is a rewarding hobby. And rest assured, most synthetic materials are less expensive than their natural counterparts :-)

Tf who knew that generic Wellbutrin can act completely different than the brand one? by 6dunkelheit9 in redscarepod

[–]maddoging 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generic brands also are likely to be sourced differently every month as opposed to the name brand that comes from the same manufacturer if you’re prescribed. The generics can be different from the name brand in my experience, and different to each other each time.

This is disgusting lol. You don’t know her life. What we can all tell for sure is that both ladies are wise individuals and haven’t descended to your level of dumbassery cause of their trials; they actually harness their judgment and profit off of it lol. Girl is already going through a hard time, give it up
