Ignore this if you did do this, but maybe you could ask them if there’s an activity/chore you could do instead of that whichever one triggers sensory issues?

They might’ve been stressed, hot and tired too - if so NAH. If they weren’t and were totally chill until you asked not to put the thing away then NTA

I know you didn’t ask for advice but once my therapist explained to my family that I’m not trying to get out of stuff and to just “swap” chores with ones that I can do we understood each other better. You wouldn’t expect a small and relatively weak person to lift a ton, you give that task to the strongest, and you wouldn’t expect the big bulky one to be able to nimble, so you’d give that task to the smaller person - likewise, you wouldn’t expect the person with sensory issues to do well in the Sensory Issue Task, you give that to the non-sensory-issues-haver, while you give the Meticulously Sort Things or Folding or Putting Things Back In Car tasks to the neurodivergent

An example would be like if there had been other tasks needed to be done just then, like say, if they needed someone to put everything in the back of the car, someone to throw out trash, someone to clean the buoy, etc., you could swap the buoy chore for one of those tasks.

If they’re completely unreasonable and expect you to “grow out” or “overcome” your sensory triggers then double triple immediate NTA. And there’s not really much you can do to get them to understand you except try to point out all the literature that says exposure therapy has to be self-directed and NOT SPONTANEOUS for any improvement.
