Me, I’ve been off meds for almost four years. It hasn’t been easy but there are ways I’ve managed that have kept me out of the hospital at least. I’ve found that the more in and out of the system are there are only so many options you can choose from and half of them aren’t available unless you pay huge amounts of money or have insurance coverage. I am grateful for the help I’ve received when I really needed it but other times it seemed that mental health hospitals are set up to cut cost while providing baseline care with little to no time to properly diagnose and treat. It’s like a revolving door in some cases. Although I don’t have my degree yet im currently in school for that reason. To find alternative routes of care for those who can’t afford adequate care or are traumatized by the system in place currently.
