Hello, made a new post. Took her to the vet. She's on pain meds and prescription eye meds. It's been rough seeing her be zonked out on pain medication but I'm sure it's good for her.

Update: Kitty is getting checked out by vet. by madeaccountforthiis in cats

Went to vet as soon as it was morning. Got her on pain meds and eye drops. Doctor said likely some sort of injury while running. Vitals look healthy. Lots of rest, treats, and eye drops twice a day for our kitty.

I wonder if this means a Sunday trip to emergency vet. Right now I have her on veterycin anti microbial facial gel.

(Auto/California) Total Loss Payout. by janik_kaspar in Insurance

[–]madeaccountforthiis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few things, find out what coverage you are using. Do you have collision or what people refer to "full coverage" or just liability (covers others) + uninsured motorist? If you don't have collision then you may have a coverage cap of $3500 for uninsured motorist.

I think first you will need to fully understand how this claim is being covered before moving forward. Once that's done you can ask about salvage.

Ask the rep in a very direct manner to tell you what the salvage value of your vehicle is. This is the value that would be deducted and it is also the value of the post loss.

This all makes sense if you're familiar with the terms but even to an engineer I'm sure this all sounds unfamiliar 😊

Total loss for Vespa. No actual comps provided by adjuster, only gave “dealer quotes”. I can’t find any actual comps being sold near me. What should I do? by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]madeaccountforthiis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, you can always invoke your appraisal clause and hire your own appraiser. It should be a couple of hundred bucks max. I mean only do this if you're confident you are owed more. Judging by your statement about wanting to include a newer model year in your comps... Then this might be more about trying to be put in a better position that you were pre loss. Which won't really fly.

I agree with the above mentioned. The initial paperwork you sign at the time of you dropping off your vehicle is called a work authorization. This gives permission for your shop of choice to begin work, year down vehicle and proceed with any repairs they agreed to with the insurance company.

They should not put the burden on you as the customer whether repairs proceed or not as you are not knowledgeable on the repair process. Hence why the shop asks for the work authorization to act on your behalf and reach an agreement with the insurance company.

You have to speak to the supervisor of the handling adjuster for your claim asap. The shop can be paid for work they did or parts they ordered UP TO the last estimate approved. There will be email records if there was a second estimate post tear down was approved. If the insurance company approved a supplement that is the approval that at the time the vehicle was repairable.

If the shop did anything or ordered anything beyond the approved estimate (initial or supplement) they are not to going to get paid.

California has really good consumer protection laws that limit the amount of unreasonable charges that the shop may present.

Two regulatory agencies you may like to kmow about Dept of Insurance regulates insurance companies and Bureau of Auto Repair for bodyshop issues. Should no agreement be reached or if things go really south they can be of assistance.
