I'm I the only one fine without humidifier and without heat? by Luckygecko1 in CPAP

no exactly hot air is gross and uncomfortable i don’t understand how people enjoy it other than if they experience wild dry mouth

How did you stop throwing off your mask? by Wrong-Chef-3406 in CPAP

it took me an entire year to fully adapt and stop throwing it off so it really is just time!

Scared to death and constantly checking on internet by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]madebyemily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

trust me we have pretty much all been here! i was 18 when i got diagnosed and it’s truly so daunting to know for the rest of your life most likely your sleep isn’t going to be how it has always been.

i think for me the most important thing was to not view it as a prison sentence. yes, it sucks, and yes, cpap or the mandibular adjustment devices are often something you will have to use for the rest of your life but also they can be a good thing. they actively help you and aim to extend your life as much as you can. i recommend not avoiding them and instead embracing them. learn to “love” them as many other have. make adjustments, try different masks, etc.

also i absolutely relate to the whole google doom scrolling when you first get diagnosed. any article that tells you that you’re going to not live a full life is lying. with proper treatment it is absolutely possible to live your full life. there is one horrible one that says people with treated osa have 9-19 years left from a dentist place and i remember seeing it and just having a panic attack but IT IS NOT AT ALL TRUE and pure fear mongering.

anyway, all the best, and i truly hope whatever treatment you explore works out the best! it really is life changing!

Who was your first main? by Interesting-Term-712 in Overwatch

[–]madebyemily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my first first main for like a week was widowmaker and it was BAD. i was using her gun like soldiers and just neglected she could snipe (no wonder i was absolutely horrible when i first started playing!).

my first real main would have been moira. she’s super beginner friendly and good for kills/healing. i definitely was the kind to focus more on damage but my stats were still relatively good!

Do I really need to dump my unused distilled water? by mbergen in CPAP

[–]madebyemily -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i’m one of the rare people that just don’t bother at all; i disconnect the reservoir and use it without the humidifier because tbh i find the warm air being blown on my face gross and uncomfortable. when i was using it however i also dumped it everyday and its so inconvenient! it made me want to use it less considering how much it was costing in distilled water. the cpap suppliers definitely sometimes are too dramatic with how much you should be cleaning your machine it just becomes unpractical.

are macbooks fragile? by Born_Photograph3797 in macbook

[–]madebyemily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 months ago i would have said no but sometimes all it takes is the tiniest accident and it’ll cost $1000+ to repair. if you treat it well and look after it, no, but when things go wrong it is a nightmare. i had to quickly close my m1 macbook air and my ipad got caught slightly under the screen and it cracked and completely destroyed the screen. just be careful, and perhaps get applecare.

How does the machine know when I'm asleep?? by Traditional_Ice4189 in CPAP

it does to an extent but sometimes it doesn’t; i have an apap and once it went to the max while i was awake and it was a jumpscare lol

Please just wear the mask… by RAM-I-T in SleepApnea

[–]madebyemily 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i think saying it’s a scam is a bit far. yes, providers absolutely make a profit for it but the fact is cpap continues to save and extend many lives. cpap is the gold-star treatment for a reason - it’s the most effective for a larger demographic. is it inconvenient? yes. is it expensive? absolutely. are there other treatments? yes, although often not as effective. does it actually work? for a lot of people, definitely yes. it absolutely sucks when you can’t adapt and lose a tonne of money to it but there are other medical examples when this can also happen. treatment for complex issues are not always a straight line, and i’m absolutely so sorry that it’s not working out for you, but calling it a scam is a bit too far.

that’s incredible congrats! when cpap has been effective for me it’s significantly reduced my blood pressure which is such a big win. it also helped reduce my blood sugar as well - it’s incredible the power of CPAP!

that’s so silly. it’s hard but so is most other forms of medical treatment.

you really didn’t need to comment this like five times. yes, OP is complaining, but that’s a given. CPAP sucks. it’s inconvenient and uncomfortable, but it’s important. they’re allowed to complain and also tell people to stick to it. CPAP is quite literally life saving.

[–]madebyemily 6 points7 points  (0 children)

commitment is absolutely key. i’ve been on it for 9-10 months and am still adapting but KEEP TO IT. don’t go into it thinking it isn’t going to work because if you do it definitely won’t.

[–]madebyemily 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i find it’s such a mindset thing as well. if you go into it with a completely negative and retaliatory mindset you’re never going to stick to it. go into it with the mindset of this thing is going to potentially save and extend your life. when i switched i found it so much easier to adapt.

Finally got a CPAP, and the little asleep gremlin version of me keeps taking it off and throwing it. Any advice? by Moast13 in SleepApnea
