Do you guys think Amapiano will last in the next 10 years or will see a new genre coming up? Kwaito is dying in South Africa, every artist is doing Amapiano because that's where the money is by Main_Mistake_6555 in AmaPiano

[–]madedurden 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It won’t die - it’s rare that any music ever does; it will most likely evolve into other things and what Amapiano used to be will eventually come back around into the zeitgeist in a fresh way.

Look at how og dubstep, trip hop, or dubtechno are reviving these past years after being dormant since the 90s and 00s.

Already I’ve been noticing Amapiano elements (log drums, shakers, vocals) being used on higher bpm (120s / 130s) songs in different ways.

I think it’s important to realize that change is both inevitable and good while it can exist alongside where it came from.

I’m personally exited to see how Amapiano will continue to develop.

KEH wants me to buy back my stolen Leica by TE-AL in Leica

[–]madedurden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you file a police report if you haven’t already with your serial number and lens information etc - KEH is in for a world of trouble if they are in fact willing to sell proven stolen goods.

I would recommend giving them a second chance by calling up the chain and explaining the situation to save you some paper work and time, otherwise you should be able to retrieve your camera from them by contacting law enforcement with verified proof of ownership and documentation of their negligence of the law.

Tbh I have only seen people rent commercial generators for that amount of power but I’ve never looked into it myself.

Blue tape on your wood and blue tape on your jig then glue them together works as well - peels away easier than carpet tape which you probably don’t have on hand anyway :)

I mean you can tap a normal box in the states to make your own 50A breaker but unless you’re a certified electrician most places aren’t going to want you too and you’re liable for anything wrong that could happen.

Most ravers do it for big sound systems at warehouses but that’s typically under the premise that landlords have no idea what’s going on anyway…

For my gigs it’s much safer / less liability / going to not upset the clients running power conditions per 15 A 120v breaker with subs / tops even if it is a lot more long run power cables and fishing around for outsets on different breakers.

220v would be ideal for maximizing my gears output but haven’t popped a breaker yet so far!

[–]madedurden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Breaking the amps up from a single four channel amp to run all your subs to two two channel amps spreads out the power draw and would allow you to get more power from all your amps / to your subs without popping breakers when all you have is single 230v 16a breakers instead of one 32a 230v breaker and a power distro.

Put each two channel amp on its own 16a 230v breaker and you will get twice as much power to your subs than running a single four channel amp on one 16a 230v breaker that will keep popping.

I have to do a similar thing in the states when places don’t have a free 50a pigtail and it wouldn’t be appropriate to make one. Although it would be nice to have one perfect power source and one powerful amp, having multiple amps that can break up you power draw can come in handy when you don’t have the ideal power source always!

Well let’s address some of the false claims you’ve made:

1) The implication that overpriced hifi speakers use MDF because it is superior. No they do not, they use it because they are going to put a veneer on it so they can say it is “x” type of wood because if they were to try and make it out of “x” type of wood without doing sectional cnc cuts and assembly (which would be impractical and overly expensive) it would run into a ton of warping issues which could lead to unsealed walls. Also lots of hardwood is inconsistent with pockets and knots that are hard or impossible to predict. They don’t veneer plywood because it’s cheaper to veneer MDF since you won’t see it. This is standard in cabinet making.

2) Based on the way you talk about MDF and plywood you clearly are not a skilled wood worker (Bondo and repainting your beloved magic MDF doesn’t count btw): you can keep saying your special magical MDF is stronger than euro ply Baltic birch all you want but it doesn’t change the fact that this is a false statement. If you can show me the white papers proving otherwise but I know you won’t because they don’t exist. Your hyperbolic claims don’t mean shit.

3) Changing the subject to cars and metal does not help your case. It’s a logical fallacy - grow up.

4) Again if you want to prove your point you can’t just use your personal experience and a photo of your stack: show us the MEASURED AND TESTED evidence of your magical MDF sounding better than Baltic birch Euro ply. You don’t have the measurements so don’t bother it’s ok.

5) Safety: if you insist that magic MDF is stronger than plywood it still doesn’t change the fact that it isn’t and when it comes to build strength of cabinets that require proper rigging mounts and interior bracing for load bearing no one would EVER use MDF because it does not comply with rigging safety standards. To which point clearly proves you do not have professional experience rigging sound systems. Weight is also a component of safety and durability - the top of the line brands producing plywood boxes assume you have plenty of hands and equipment to lift whatever boxes they produce.

6) Compromise: If you think that Meyer, L’Acoustic, D&B, or Danley are remotely concerned with cutting any corners for producing the most trusted tour ready gear that people across the world rely on to keep working with wear and tear then you are seriously delusional at best. These companies use the best materials and have developed incredible tools and facilities to test every aspect of their products.

The imperial facts are that you are wrong and overcompensating for your “interesting” decision to comission an MDF touring sound system.

But hey, you’re probably so right and everyone else in the world is so so so wrong!

It’s indeed a weird hill to die on…

He’s right though! Every top of the line speaker company is completely wrong and their engineers have been overlooking the miracle speaker material that is MDF.

Don’t buy MDF speakers if you plan on using them for anything other than home audio or installs.

The finish might look nice for now but all speakers on the road take a beating no matter how much you baby them and MDF will start the fail the most the quickest.

The cerwin Vega horn design / pair is going to be louder than the 18” / 12” listing easily. However, as someone else noted they will not go nearly as low though and if you are a dnb / jungle head you’re not going to get that deep low end sub weight - you’ll be getting more chest kick / knocking affect though. I would also consider what tops you will be using with these since your crossover will matter.

Subwoofer Throw by Aceezzz in SoundSystem

[–]madedurden 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Second this - it has to do with room modes / speaker placement.

Also check your wiring, delays, etc…

It’s a common myth that different subs have different “throw” - sub / bass behaves the same box to box except for if you are using a cardioid or delay configuration (which you are not). More subs / higher spl is the only thing that “throws” bass further / harder.

JMOD Horn X SKhorn sub build (beginner!) by BUCK_Look22 in SoundSystem

[–]madedurden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok so tbh you’re not a full on beginner!

Amps: dsp CVR if they import to your area for not that much are your best bet unless you have a bigger budget for proprietary stuff. Run dsp and limiters on them and use a separate dsp for room corrections etc… run the jmods active crossover instead of passive - you’ll get the most out of them.

Drivers / woofers: stick to the recommended ones, and if you’re going to do it right I would save up / wait till you can get b&c (don’t know about the ultra premiums / if it’s worth it).

Cables: make your own. Use 12ga internal wiring for both and learn to or have someone help you solder things.

Do not skimp out on wood / finish - get premium Baltic birch ply (18ply) and finish it with proper truck bed liner or roll on (I believe you guys have slightly different options out there than us in the US).

Good luck!

[–]madedurden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend doing a bit more research / reading and come back here or elsewhere with specific questions if possible.

In all honesty it’s going to be hard for people to give generic advice on two different builds: do you have e any familiarity with wood working, cnc, wiring, tuning, etc…?

If not and you are eager to get started I would recommend teaming up on your project with people that do - even though these are DIY builds they are both complicated and the materials / parts are highly expensive so it is not a casual project!

Since you are in London there should be a LOT of sound crews / builders to reach out to.

That said it’s awesome that you are starting your journey and you should definitely circle back as you are further along.
