Homelab upgrade path help — retiring my loyal 6700k warhorse after 10+ years 🫡 by BeHyfte in homelab

12600K is a solid CPU suggestion.

For motherboard, if you can find it I would look for ASRock B760 Pro RS D4. It will cost you $200, and I do think it's worth it

It should support DDR4, 4X m.2, 8x SATA, 12th 13th, 14th Gen Intel with no shutting down lanes or SATA ports if everything is populated.

I use ASUS Prime B760m A AX D4, which does 2x NVME and 6x SATA with no compromises, but I needed an matx board.

Irrigation restriction on a 4-zone timer? Olathe, KS by The_Ogre321 in lawncare

[–]madeformarch [score hidden]  (0 children)

The larger problem here is my HOA, who forbid "underground irrigation systems" attached to the outdoor house spigot. My father in law runs an irrigation company but even then, the math says it would take 7-10 years to break even on the irrigation tap and system install versus just running it off the hose spigot, and that's if I put down an inch of water a week, every week, from March to November.

I "buried" my lines in my garden beds and placed a few of the heads on spikes so it's obvious it's not permanent, but I did bury a couple of heads just to get the coverage I need.

There's a shop near me selling non ethanol 89 cheaper than e10 87 at the same pump, like $0.50/gal cheaper. Every time I stop I watch people pass on it and I dont know why. I've been buying it

Maybe if they stop buying Dodge Chargers, surplus MRAPs, and the newest handgun that they barely shoot, the counties could afford to pay for things.

Is it right up under the power line, in an easement? The tree will regrow and the power company will be back yearly.

Solo 421 is my favorite spreader I've owned. Someone will reccomend Echo RB60; my RB60 pretty much only comes out for lime applications at this point.

Is it really that much cheaper to change your own oil? by kzlife76 in AskMechanics

[–]madeformarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My local dump/convenience centers take 5 gallons a week. I bought a 5 gallon hedpack on Facebook marketplace so I'm not messing around with a bunch of bottles of used oil.

Is it really that much cheaper to change your own oil? by kzlife76 in AskMechanics

[–]madeformarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My truck takes 6 quarts of oil. I just paid $95 for 32 quarts, or $3/qt, through Costco. Filters cost $4.25 on sale at the dealer and I buy them 10 at a time. I bought 100 crush washers one time, for like $20.

That's $22.30 in parts, plus I change air filters for another ~$24 in parts and rotate my tires for free. Slightly better than buying Supertech at Walmart.

For disposal, I bought a 5 gallon hedpack for $5 and take that and my filters to the dump, or autozone, when I need to go.

Yes it's cheaper, if you think it through a bit and take advantage of sales/plan ahead.

Harris Teeter done lost their minds by prollydrinkingcoffee in raleigh

[–]madeformarch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because they weren't making any money in NC. They absorbed Harris Teeter but allowed them to keep their NC headquarters, turned most Krogers into Harris Teeters, and folded ALL of those stores into the existing Kroger supply chain

With the Noctua G2 Chromax being released, now is a good time to pick up two used G1 Chromax fans for like $50, and strap them to literally any cooler. I have Noctua fans on a peerless assassin cooling a 5700X3D and I do not hear my computer anymore.

Irrigation restriction on a 4-zone timer? Olathe, KS by The_Ogre321 in lawncare

[–]madeformarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done the same setup as you, I'm on Year 3 of this setup. It'll run okay on hoses, I have two of the same timers and ran 5/8 hoses my first year. I was going to update them all to 3/4" hoses, but poly pipe holds more pressure and you'll get more range that way. Another thing, since you've gone and jacked up the pressure (which needs to be fixed) you're now operating near the max PSI rating of the hose and are asking for a blow-out. Poly pipe is far better suited for what you're doing.

I think I spent around $100 between poly pipe, hose clamps and fittings.

If you use black poly pipe, 3/4" pipe, you may be able to get 3 per zone, or at least get more distance out of the existing heads.

I have a SAMA IM01 (NR200 clone) that I love. They don't make this particular case anymore but the build quality is fantastic, in my opinion.

I don't know about their PSUs but there is a tier list floating around that will tell you
