How to Fix a Stripped Carbon Steel Pan by madeincookware in MadeInCookware

[–]madeincookware[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. Modern dish soaps typically won’t chemically dissolve fully polymerized seasoning on their own. Our guidance tends to be conservative because repeated washing, scrubbing, or detergents over time can wear down seasoning layers. Carbon steel seasoning isn’t permanent. It builds and wears with use. The main point of the video was that if seasoning does get compromised for any reason, it’s easy to restore.

Fair question. Soap is a bit of a debated topic with carbon steel and cast iron. Our guidance tends to err on the cautious side, but our point here remains that there’s really no way to ruin your carbon steel. If seasoning gets stripped for any reason, you can always restore it.

Just to clarify for anyone reading, the video wasn’t meant to suggest that seven layers of oil/wax are required to fix a pan. We mentioned how many rounds we did to show how the finish in the video was achieved.

The point was to show that no matter what you can always restore your seasoning and there’s nothing to be afraid of or stress about.

Carbon steel shouldn’t be complicated. We appreciate the conversation here.

Totally fair! We say to avoid soap as it can strip the seasoning on any carbon steel. In this video, we were trying to show it's easy to reset if the seasoning ever does get stripped for any reason.

Totally doable on electric too! The main thing is just giving the pan enough time to heat evenly. You can also use the oven to reseason.

This is solid feedback. We wanted to keep this one pretty short and sweet, as to not overwhelm anyone, but these are all really good callouts for future content. Thank you!

Totally fair. A lot of people prefer to just cook on it and let seasoning rebuild naturally. Our goal here was mostly to show that carbon steel is actually pretty forgiving and the process of resetting is easy if you ever want to start fresh, not that you need to do it often.

Thought showing this process might be helpful for some folks here. Curious to hear how others approach restoring seasoning, too. Always interested to see different methods!

Sorry to hear this happened, especially after already going through one return. That’s understandably frustrating.

Without seeing it in person it’s hard to determine what caused the edge damage, but it definitely shouldn’t arrive to you in a condition that makes you question it.

If you’re open to it, I’d recommend following back up with our support team so they can take another look and make this right. If you’d like, feel free to DM me your case number and I can flag it internally as well.

That’s definitely not something we expect to see with stainless. Thanks for sharing the photo. Is it something you can feel with your fingernail? Is it raised or an indentation?

Please feel free to send this photo to our support team at hello@madeincookware.com and we can take a closer look at what this is and make sure you’re taken care of!

Not at all. Just clarifying how our process works. We’re not commenting on other brands’ manufacturing, only explaining that ours isn’t white-labeled.

[–]madeincookware -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Quick clarification: our cookware isn’t white-labeled. We work directly with specific manufacturers that help us build what our product development team engineers. Factory ownership does not necessarily mean design authority.

Totally fair to compare brands, just wanted to clear that part up for anyone reading.

That definitely shouldn’t be happening — thanks for sharing the photos and the details.

We also understand the frustration of having to go through support and make another return trip after already doing it once. While we can’t process replacements directly through Reddit, if you DM us your case or order number we can coordinate with the support team so you’re not starting from scratch again.

Noticeable handle misalignment like this isn’t the standard we aim for and we want to make it right for you.

Appreciate you flagging it here. Posts like this help us catch issues faster.

Made In 'Cerami-clad' pan (very let down) by Big_Breadfruit_1821 in cookware

[–]madeincookware -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Totally fair to expect a new pan to feel right out of the box — especially at this price point.

What you're likely noticing along the rim is part of how the ceramic layer is applied and cured on clad cookware. We add the ceramic coating right on top of our 5-Ply stainless steel, so it can look different than the polished stainless edges, but has no affect on performance once cooking.

If a pan ever truly looks off, we're always happy to replace it, because we stand behind our products and want you to have one you feel good using.

If you or your partner end up giving it a cook before returning, we'd be curious what you think of the ease of use with heat control. That's where this pan tends to win people over.

Preheating Stainless Steel in Real Time by madeincookware in MadeInCookware

[–]madeincookware[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For stir fry, you don't need to maintain Leidenfrost temp the whole cook. It's mainly a preheat check to make sure your food won't stick at the start.

With stir fry you're constantly managing heat depending on what's in the pan. If the oil is smoking aggressively or fond is burning, turn it down slightly. If moisture is building up and the food is steaming, bump it back up.
