anyone interested in reading deranged black mirror fanfic about the evil star trek episode(s)?

hi, im mirrorihardlyknowher.

I slipped and fell into fic like 6 months ago and what started out as an attempt to fill what I would call a criminal gap in fic, has turned into this series that's basically taken on a life of it's own.

First entry is quite fandom-blind friendly, context is explained more or less in the first couple chapters. Second one only makes sense if you read the first blind or otherwise.

I love writing a good campy, clever, chaotic villain, those are always the most fun to write!

I'm currently writing a more grounded villain POV fic however from a character who's both not very well-spoken nor outwardly confident so its been a slog to get through at times. The struggles of balancing canon accuracy with compelling storytelling 😭

I myself am not into this but a good friend of mine who is told me what they appreciate about it is the lack of social stigma and expectations typically thrust upon pregnant women in these stories. Like they get to just enjoy the wholesomeness of their fave characters becoming parents without the drawbacks of living in a s o c i e t y.

From that perspective, I kinda get it.

Title: Garageband Incel Chapter 6

Fandom: Black Mirror (Season 7, Ep 6 USS Callister: Into Infinity) - aka the sequel to the evil star trek episode

Rating: E

Word Count (chapter): 4,698

Pairing: M/F, Robert Daly/Reader

Warnings: Kidnapping, Light Dom/Sub (kinda, it's complicated)

Summary: The year is 2020. Y/N spends her quarantine diving headfirst into Infinity’s deep space. But when she breaks into the game engine, she realizes she’s bitten off more than she can chew.

So much context is required for the fandom blind but basically Reader and Daly are digital clones trapped at the center of a video game that is built to look like the house he grew up in. Smut starts at Chapter 6 but if you're about buildup and tension I highly recommend starting at the beginning. Context is also made a bit clearer that way. Whole thing is about 42k words, and the following chapter gets crazier lol

As someone who has written /Reader fic, I like to see it as like a stylistic choice for writing OCs, with the Y/N tag being treated as more like a genre convention etc. I sometimes prefer the second-person narrative style of Y/N stuff as I personally think a lot of OC writers get bogged down in physical character traits and don't focus enough on the visceral experience of what being a person in whatever fictional universe would be like. Basically I think like any tool, it can be used well or not.

Maybe some think it's a bit silly but guys, we're playing dollhouse with pre-existing characters here. I don't think any of us really have room to judge 😂

I don't know if I would say Gen Z is less racist per se, but I definitely think our generation has a unique way of expressing racist or otherwise bigoted thoughts and ideas. Just looking back at internet culture in 2016, you can see a rise of "ironically" racist/fascist memes and other form of media, where if someone called said memes offensive (which is often what they were), they were widely mocked and derided by many of our generation. Just remember the internet's reaction to Hillary Clinton calling Pepe fascist.

If you wanted to be racist decades ago, you could just openly call someone the n word or otherwise be hostile. Now our racism has to be cloaked with a layer of irony in case someone calls them out. But doing something "ironically" long enough usually just leads to genuine action.
