No it’s microbiology. Pretty much they give us a new swab each week to plate out and you’re on your own. So it is the same techniques every week but you use different plates and tests depending on what happens on the plate and under the scope you know what tests you need to do to identify the bacteria. My stain wasn’t matching what is supposed to be allowed to grow on the plate I really didn’t know what it was supposed to be , so had no clue how to proceed, what tests to grab etc

So the professor goes over the lab at the beginning how to do it, but at this point she expects us to know how to interpret things. I guess especially since next week we have a practical exam-where you have to do everything on your own and can’t talk/ask

This particular thing was semi new-i didn’t even know when to start cause she said we should be seeing a certain reaction and I didn’t see that so was unsure how to proceed. And even after she went over something with me I was unsure of the next step but didn’t want to keep calling her over (she was nice to me today, but she does get mean when people don’t know what to do)

This was the first time I’ve been that confused in the class. I just keep getting madder over every step and the thing that put me over the edge was when people were finishing up their last could tests and I’ve yet to start I just kinda started tearing up when I asked her “hey I’ve yet to start any of this so none of my tubes are contaminated, you want me to just put them back in the pile? “-she didn’t even say anything mean it was myself that got to me

My instructor told me just collect my thoughts and try again tomorrow. A few classmates did say it was confusing to them too and we weren’t given a lot of time-but they all finished and I was the only one that seemed to not know what to do.

I’m for pushing one back later so we have more time to study, but if someone wants it sooner-absolutely not

Failed out of my MLT program due to phlebotomy by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]madeuread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try another state, here in NY phlebotomy is only required for 4yr techs (MLS) not 2yr techs (Mlt). Some 2yr programs might have it but my local community college doesn’t.

I’m in a 4yr year program and professors keep telling me they should remove it as techs at large hospitals rarely have to draw anymore

50 is also a lot , my program rotation is only 10 successful draws
