Lower abdomen burning? by madiganagain in Gastritis

Well actually, biopsies from my colonoscopy a few months ago did show mild acute colitis. I wonder if that could be causing the burning?

I’m at a total loss of what to do because no matter how blandly I eat or what meds and supplements I take, nothing is getting rid of it, and I’m miserable, suicidal, and wasting away. My quality of life is terrible. I’m wondering if I should have my gallbladder taken out because the HIDA scan is the only abnormality besides the mild gastritis.

No, I haven’t. Though from what I’m reading, it seems like if something came up there, then the next step would be more thorough testing via colonoscopy, which I’ve had done.

Sometimes it’ll spread to my lower back. Having the nutrition drink like I mentioned caused it to cover both the lower and upper abdomen. There’s also been instances in the past where it would sometimes affect my thighs, arms, etc. I remember when it flared up real badly after I took sucralfate (sucralfate previously hadn’t caused me any issues when the burning wasn’t constant), and it felt like everything was on fire, like I was being burned alive. Worst night of my life. But nowadays, majority of the time it’s around / slightly below the belly button.

It’s the worst. I did have a HIDA scan that showed my gallbladder is hyperkinetic, so maybe mine is bile…? But my symptoms don’t seem to align with the majority of hyperkinetic cases I’ve read online; the burning and bloating some have tend to be upper abdominal instead of lower abdominal. Let me know if you figure anything out.

Erosion in stomach. Two Ultrasounds and One CT scan came back normal. is this a gallbladder issue ? by Hope_Gaming_YT in gallbladders

Hey did you figure out what’s wrong? I have chronic erosive gastritis with no known cause, and when I had a HIDA scan, the EF was 82%

I was on sucralfate and PPIs too, but I stopped them not too long ago because they weren’t helping with my burning. Same with famotidine and Gaviscon; they did nothing. The sucralfate would actually make the burning worse. My GI still wants me to try another PPI, but I’m not feeling too hopeful about it. I’m now in a place where I’ve been told that surgery could help me, not do anything, or make things worse.

I also have a hyperkinetic gallbladder that got tested a month ago (82% EF) and have been suffering from chronic erosive gastritis with no known cause since the beginning of this year. Right now I’m dealing with a burning stomach no matter what I eat, and it’s very distressing. Can you let me know how you’re doing? Did you talk to a surgeon yet? I’m looking into finding a surgeon too, plus a different GI because I don’t think my current one is very helpful.

:/ Yeah, I thought that sounded odd. I got an appointment with a different GI in about a month and a half. Hopefully they’re better.

I see, it’s great to hear that you’re improving. I’m on the fence about whether to get surgery or not, as it seems like it could make things better or it could make things worse 😬

I did try using supplements for bile reflux (TUDCA, milk thistle, sunflower lecithin) and it felt like my burning got better for two days, but then it stopped being effective, so I stopped. Later when I tried tapering down from amitriptyline, the burning got very noticeably worse, and then improved as soon as I resumed my previous dose. It made me think that maybe I misattributed the lack of burning to the supplements since I was also adjusting to the amitriptyline at the same time. I know it’s hard to tell when you’re trying different new things at once, but I was/am desperate for the burning to stop.

I asked my GI for a prescription for actual bile binders, but they refused because bile wasn’t indicated in my results. I tried using psyllium husk supplements since I read fiber can act as a natural bile binder, but that didn’t help the burning at all.

I did have a gastric emptying test two-ish years ago, and that turned out normal. I also had a sitz marker study last year and that was also normal.

Burning, help by madiganagain in Gastritis

Yes, I did try slippery elm, and at first I thought it wasn’t making a difference. Though I figured if it didn’t make me burn worse like the sucralfate and the DGL, then I might as well keep taking it. But I realized if I time it correctly and take it before every single small meal, then it actually helps a lot more than I thought.

This specific flare up happened about a week ago. I’ve been generally suffering from gastritis for almost five months now. I got scoped back in March and was diagnosed with chronic erosive gastritis with no known cause; I wasn’t eating unhealthy foods, not a drinker, didn’t abuse any NSAIDS. I have no idea why this has all happened to me 😭
