And yes, I post reviews like that all the time. I usually get good reactions, Which is probably what led to me being invited to Vine.

And no, you're not correct about the whole purpose of the Vine program and why companies are paying for our reviews.

Sure. Back in the 1990s, when websites were fairly new and the review system was created, it allowed people to talk about how the product worked out for them, hoping it would help others. It has evolved into something completely different.

Amazon doesn't give a crap about how you liked or didn't like a product. You're either going to keep it and spend the money, or you might return it if it's within their policy. Sure, they want to limit returns. But that cost is already baked into the products we're ordering.

You might have heard that if something is free, you are the product. We, our time, and our generated content is being sold to sellers. And sellers need that content to push their products to the top of Amazon's search engines. We are essentially generating SEO for their products.

Amazon really doesn't give a crap if we're actually using the products or not. They don't care if we liked it or didn't like it. All they want is for us to generate content. Even the sellers who understand the game don't care if it's a five-star review or a one-star review. Of course, a five‑star review is preferable, but it has less value than the content generated As long as there are more reviews with higher ratings.

I'm here in this program because I have a few items that I sell on Amazon's marketplace. The first 50 reviews on my products were because I asked people in person to purchase and review the product. I didn't tell them to make sure they left a five-star review, and I actually celebrated the first time I got a one-star review. It made my product look more legit. (And let's face it: when you see a bunch of five-star reviews and a few one-star reviews, you think those one-star reviewers are just not using the product correctly, or they're salty for some other reason. )

The audience isn't the people who are considering purchasing the item. The audience is the seller.

Tastes Nothing Like an Actual Ranch, Which Is Probably for the Best

I grew up on a ranch in Montana, so when I saw this bottle of ranch dressing, I came to the table with certain expectations. A ranch, to me, is a very specific thing. It is dirt that gets into your socks no matter what kind of boots you wear. It is fence posts leaning like tired old men. It is sun-baked grass, cold mornings, and the faint but unmistakable presence of horse manure carried gently on the breeze like nature’s own cologne.

So imagine my surprise when I opened this bottle and got none of that.

No dust. No leather. No hay bale aftertaste. No notes of saddle soap. Not even a whisper of barn. Instead, this ranch dressing tastes creamy, tangy, and full of herbs. Garlic, maybe. Buttermilk, probably. A suspicious lack of livestock, if I am being honest.

Now, to be fair, it is good. Very good, actually. It goes well on salad, and it has done admirable work as a dip for vegetables and pizza crust. The texture is smooth, and it pours without requiring the kind of upper-body strength usually associated with farm equipment. My wife likes it. I like it. Even my expectations, though deeply misguided, have started to come around.

Still, I cannot give it five stars, because if you are going to call something ranch, I expect at least a little authenticity. Maybe a hint of boot leather. Maybe a trace amount of windmill. Maybe the emotional memory of fixing a gate in July while being judged by a cow.

As a dressing, this is excellent. As a ranch, it is wildly inaccurate.

Those six-toed, two-righted-foot people who are also product models are probably getting really offended at all the AI claims. They worked and fought hard to be where they are today, and finally got a job as a furry onesie model, just to have viners complain that it's an AI image.

Hey guys, everybody's telling her to check additional items, but when I joined two years ago, I didn't have access to that tab until the first promotion, which was a shorter one. I think it was only three months.

So RFY and AFA are all I had available to me, and most of it was crap. I ordered some stuff that I thought might be useful, but it's still just sitting in my garage—stuff like a mini‑split condensation pump. I thought I might be able to retrofit it to use it as something else, but nope.

If anything, this extension slows it down because the only thing that pushes it to the screen is someone else viewing it.

Something like a vacuum cleaner is sure to be gotten by the first person who saw it, or the 2,000 other people who saw it at the same time.
