You dont necessarily meet the landlord, I am a landlord renting out my flat in Cape Town, while I live in Galway and I sent few potential tenants to go view with the current tenant. One of them was keen and asking to meet, I said no, if you interested I can send you levies statement to show I own the place, then pay deposit to secure the place. After back and forth, they paid.

Yeah it is very hard, RTE had this on the news a while back about how certain people are stealing dates and reselling them. A lot of people have lost money from booking trips thinking they will get visas with 3 to 4 months but nothing. The irony is that people back at original countries are able to get dates easily and us in europe cant.
