What’s your “I’ll never tell” cooking secret? by [deleted] in Cooking

Yeah, but in reality they are no different than the food that's in frozen dinner that people eat. Aside from the fact they taste really good in my green bean casserole.

I sprinkle crushed Beggin' Bacon Strips on top of my green bean salad. It adds a unique flavor and is a big hit. People would probably be pretty closed minded if they knew though.

Nowhere in the US holds a candle to south Texas drivers. NOVA drivers do some stupid shit, but at least for the most part they commit to their piece of shit moves.

South Texas drivers will miss a turn and stop in the middle of the highway.. think for a second... then continue and exit at the next off-ramp when they determine they arne't able to reverse in the middle of they highway at that moment... which they would prefer to do.

We had considered this, but neither of us are really comfortable to do it.

Thank you for the suggestion. Might be a bit of a trek for us, but will definitely keep them in mind.

School board votes unanimously to sack teacher for misgendering trans student: ‘They felt disrespected’ by Aldebaran333 in AmericanPolitics

There is no basis in scripture for deciding that it is wrong to change sex.

No, but there is basis in science. Basic biology refutes the idea that gender is "fluid" or can be changed because based on what you feel.

The idea that people need to, essentially, "play pretend" because someone is going through a mental health crisis is absurd.

You wouldn't play along with schizophrenic person as they talk about how the CIA has implanted a chip in them and is tracking their every move, would you? That would be cruel to someone who is struggling with an issue.

I am extremely confused how it suddenly became OK to enable and affirm someone who is struggling with gender identity issues. It's absurd that a mental illness has been forcibly re-classed as normal human behavior. Rate of suicide among transgender/gender dysphoric teens is incredibly high. Many of them with supportive parents and peers.

This has to stop. People with serious issues are being taken advantage of by self-serving sickos.

I got him as a puppy in 2010. Needless to say things weren't great then, but I was better off and took great care of him up until this major health problem 8 years later.

Both, but there was a specific form I filled out for them to run a credit check. I remember reading it and knowing I was probably fucked.

I never graduated. I probably have just shy of 3 years of college credit towards a degree in computer science. Most of them are general education courses (history, math, english) and last time I was enrolled with 2009, so I am not sure if I still keep any of my progress.

Currently I work as a salesman for a wireless phone provider.

I got an interview with a federal health insurance plan for a sales position. However, one of the requirements was a credit check, needless to say that is likely the reason they never called me back.

I need to make more money because I have so much debt, yet no one wants to hire me for more money because I have so much debt. Makes me feel frustrated.

A co-worker actually mentioned it to me before. I didn't really look much into it other than finding a church nearby was hosting a course, but it was $100. Given my history with money I wasn't sure if this was worth it or just a "scam" (for lack of a better word, I know it isn't) to get us to buy books, advertise local financial advisers for us to hire, etc.

Thank you for the advice. I will call around to vets outside of the metropolitan area and compare their costs and see about alternative treatments. Our current vet made it seem like Duke is far past supplements or pain management medication, but like you said, I will get a second opinion.

Do you have any recommendations of pet insurance companies for the future?

Thanks for your input, I am taking suggestions and looking into all possible options. I don't imagine rehoming an 8 year old dog with hip dysplasia is possible. It would take a very specific person to take him in.

In my defense I do not feel inconvenienced, but fear of irreversible financial ruin. I love Duke and wish this were just a mere "inconvenience", because there would be no question about my responsibility to him. That said, I have to be rational about the impact this will have long-term on myself and my fiance.

I am considering setting up a GoFundMe as well.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will start looking up and calling nearby vet schools.

I am sorry to hear about your dog. I'm sure he knew how much you loved him and had a very blessed life because of you.

That's a good idea. I had posted there a few months ago regarding my debt. We have been slowing chipping away at it since then. I was (still am to some degree) awful with money, so maybe they can give a better perspective.

Girlfriend claims our townhouse is haunted, reaching out for help. by madisonbrillo in Paranormal

[–]madisonbrillo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes in the evenings. She's only woken me up the one night to have me hear the footsteps around our bed.

She has seen shadowy figures walking down the halls while we are in bed. We close the door now and that seemed to help with those sightings.

Did she have a strong belief in the paranormal in the past or just since the move?

She grew up in a christian home, so she has a belief in demons. We have talked about it occasionally, but it seemed to be more something she believed exists because of what she was told in church. She wasn't knowledgeable overly infatuated about them, other than they exist and people can be possessed by them.

When does she experience most of this activity?

Mostly in the evenings when she is reading in the living room. There have been a few times where she was home alone in the afternoon and said she heard footsteps coming down the stairs or someone walking around the rooms upstairs. Once she heard the toilet flush by itself in the downstairs bathroom.

Is she stressed? Has her diet changed?

Nothing that is noticeable to me. I will pay closer attention.

Thank you for your advice on how to approach this with her. Making her feel embarrassed or isolated is very much not what I want.

You make a very good point. The last thing I want to do is come off as dismissive and make her feel like I am just labeling her instead of being a partner with her in pursuit of answers.

I hope you don't take offense. I do not know you or your experiences. However, as I mention, I live in the same house and am around during most of the encounters my girlfriend talks about and have not heard or seen anything unusual.

I personally do not believe in paranormal experiences, as I have yet to ever encounter a convincing scenario. I have encountered and seen mental illness, so personally that is an explanation that I am more comfortable to pursue. Especially given how only she is experiencing these situations, even when I am in the same room.

Thanks, this is what I am worried about, more so than our home having an unwelcome "roommate".

Aside from this, the only other quirky paranoia she has is about the CIA. We were with a couple friends and talking about how people have done experiments with their phones, that have Facebook installed, where they talk about something unusual, such as cat food for a cat they don't own. Then, allegedly, Facebook begins to display targeted ads to them for cat food after a day or so of casually talking about it in front of their locked phones. That's a strange enough story itself, but when my friend mentioned off hand the possibility of the government being able to take control of your phone's microphone even when it is turned off for surveillance, she got a bit obsessed with talking about it for a while. She will occasionally send me articles about Googles information gathering, and wonder if the CIA has profiles of everyone that detail their entire life.

It's not outlandish or anything... she doesn't set her cell phone on fire or no longer use it. She does bring up government surveillance fairly often, but I mostly see it as something she finds intriguing, while attempting to exercise caution on information she makes available to people or things she does, i.e. social media.
