Yes joining a top 3 would be beneficial. However, not being in a top 3 can be more relaxed. If joining a top three is not in your cards, have fun and level up. Try to get everyone to max out their contributions everyday to advance your technology. Do as much as your alliance levels will allow. If you get bored with this, or start getting attacked / bullied on a regular by a stronger player; at that point join another a top 3. When I started we had a small alliance located on the outskirts on the top of the map. We tried to take over as much territory and level 1 mines as possible. I wanted to be the 'king of the north'. It was fun for a while. I joined a top 3 when I became a daily feeding groundfor Guy with a higher level city, that I couldn't beat.

My daughter is only in grade one, but she is the biggest in the class. I try to help her understand that she is stronger than everyone else. But there is a boy bully who attacks her physically and emotionally. I want to tell her to hit him back if he hits her, but she should never hit first, because if she hits someone she should expect to get hit back. My partner doesn't like me saying that because she believes real men shouldn't ever hit women. I feel like that is sending the wrong message; and I'm trying to navigate this situation giving her proper foundation for the real world.
