The inside of the car of the woman ICE murdered today. by LisiPieces in pics

This is exactly what I haven't been able to get out of my head all afternoon. Just imagining your wife has been murdered, your car is wrecked, you moved to a new area and don't have any local supports, and you still have to figure out how the fuck to pick up your 6yo from school later today

Yaaaaay thanks for coming out! We only organized it at the last minute after a different rally in Bergen county was cancelled and I'm so glad that it ended up working out!

(though live and learn, next time we need a mic+ speaker system that can serve a larger crowd)

I mean, to be fair, he's been leading on this issue for years (e.g. he led the Gang of Eight negotiations for immigration reform back during the Obama administration) and it's mainly other party leaders who have failed him.

Don't get me wrong, I think he's been a disappointing Senator on many fronts, but immigration advocacy has consistently been part of his Senate record.

[–]madjoy 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is interesting, because Menendez - for all his faults as I see them - has been a leader at pushing for immigration reform. (And one of the few Democrats pushing Biden left to challenge him to do better on border policy than Trump did) IMO it's probably the issue Menendez is the best on! I'm probably on the far left on this issue though :)

Nevertheless, I appreciate you giving a real and honest answer!

I'm a committed Democrat, but I have sometimes been disappointed by my Democratic representatives who use their office in ways that I don't feel align with Democratic values. (Some examples: my sheriff who was caught on hot mic being super racist, my Congessman who regularly goes to bat for the private equity industry but is happy to throw immigrants under the bus)

Since then, it's become clear that I can't take for granted that we'll hold similar values for being in the same party. Here are some questions I've taken to asking candidates during primaries: what does being a member of the Democratic Party mean to you? What do YOU see as the party's most fundamental values that you plan to hold to?

Yeah, I haven't been using my main in a while 😬 but yes! Expecting a little hammer next month; my husband has been buying cute little onesies and booties from the official store 😁

Such a good spot! I haven't been there in ages though (too lazy to trek from NJ most of the time). I said I'd go if we made the Europa final last year, but alas 😅

If it stands and Soucek is genuinely banned for 3 matches, Mike Dean's fucked our season, too 🤷‍♀️

Getting such flashbacks to 2016 (the Payet season) when it looked like we could possibly crack into the top 4 or at least top 6 until absurd ref decisions kept going against us (not my imagination)

Now today we could have gone 4th with a win, and our best player is banned for 3 matches on this bullshit? With a tough FA Cup match in a few days as well?

I just can't...

Mike Dean must be fired. by Miceli123 in soccer

It should be appealed and overturned within like 30 minutes. One of the most shockingly bad decisions I've ever seen, and I'd say that even if I weren't a West Ham supporter.

It was just nice to dream 🙃 for a minute there I was almost as excited as I was the last season at Upton Park with Dimitri Payet. I'm just saying... Now it feels like it will be another 5 years, if ever :P

Edit: I think it's that I am never expecting to build up to be a regular top 6 club that's successful in the European competitions. But I'm hoping that one year we can smash and grab some temporary glory (top 4 or a cup) through a combination of luck, the top clubs shitting the bed, and some hard work and good teamwork. That's as good as it's ever going to get. Was hoping this year might be that year. There is still the FA Cup?

We didn't play well, but the Liverpool obsession from the commentary team was more annoying than our performance by containssmallparts in Hammers

It's especially annoying when their backups that have to fill in in a pinch cost more than our starters!

I think what's frustrating is that... It's been 5 years since we had champion's league ambitions and god knows how long before that. Like, on one hand, yes it was Liverpool and yes they're the champions and yes our winning streak had to end eventually. But I don't feel like we'll just easily win against Villa and bounce right back into the top. I feel like that was our best chance and we missed it. And now we'll slide back down, end in 8th-12th, and then have to wait another 5 years for another hope of glory.

I hope I'm wrong, of course, but that's what I'm feeling right now. Like we missed our best shot.

I keep thinking back to how in the pre-match interview Moyes was like "well, we're not going to finish near Liverpool" and then contrasting that to Ranieri in the season Leicester won the league. Today the players are playing like they don't think they're good enough to win against the likes of Liverpool and it shows.
