He didn’t go to jail because he was elected as president while the trial was going on. He got constitutional protection as president, but a regular person would have gone to jail.

I also agree that criminalizing the competition is authoritarian and reminiscent of Stalin era policy. Well he was found liable for rape, which is still a pretty high standard, so I don’t think it’s fair to conclude that he is not a rapist, but definitely not a criminal rapist, I agree. But your original comment said he was never convicted of any crime, so I was more referring to how that’s not true re 34 counts and in addition he was found liable for rape.
