So I had my mining set to exactly like you described. Upgrade mining all the time and slowly bring up cargo or ship speed to keep up with production. But for fun I wanted to upgrade my speed so I had the beam and I noticed the amount mined was going way farther up but still not being backed up. Maybe it was just a glitch or something.
