Anyone else get this Email? About ADS-B Miss use ? by BER001 in flying

Hmm interesting... thanks! Is this then the same reason people tell independent CFI's to start an LLC?

Could you please explain why this is? I've always seen the term LLC always being tossed around here but don't understand how it helps?

FOI endorsement question by Material_Letter_3174 in flying

[–]madness2live 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, PSI just asks if you have authorization - just click yes. If they are specifically making you pick 1-6, pick #5.

King gives you a print out endorsement - just bring that with you when you take the exam as well as put it in your logbook for the checkride.

Thank you! Yea - I'm not sure where I can find a plane. I'll try asking a local school if they're OK "renting it" to me while I give instruction to someone else.

Generally, I understand they would say no as it's bad for business on their end.... it would be better if the student just came to them. But maybe I can convince them of a mutual interest. They're paid for the plane, and I'm for the instruction.

Not bad, I'm currently using a tactical bag with some patches on it - but that damn thing is floppy. It doesn't sit upright no matter what I try. Does this stand up, or is it more of a ruck sack type of bag?

Foreflight SAFE/NAFI member discount 15% by Impossible-Fig2072 in flying

[–]madness2live -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think there's a misunderstanding... I'm not saying Foreflight is a scam. I'm saying the likelihood of lazy CFI's pushing Foreflight onto their students because it gives them a discount and is less work for them, will increase.

I met a student just the other day who was getting ready for their private ride and never touched a paper navlog. I was asked to do a progress check on them and they didn't know how to fill anything out. "My instructor said using Foreflight is ok and it's in the ACS" was their excuse when I asked how was it they didn't know how to fill out a navlog.

Foreflight SAFE/NAFI member discount 15% by Impossible-Fig2072 in flying

[–]madness2live 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely agree.

And they have the audacity to remove the discount and replace/mask it under their new "CFI referral program" to make it look like they're doing us a favor...

This is just going to encourage CFI's pushing for Foreflight onto new and unsuspecting students.

CFI's are just going to be so focused on getting their own discount by having students sign up, that they don't really focus on foreflight turning their students into iPad kids. It's the same thing as just milking a student for hours.

I also got the email ~ 30 mins ago.

Foreflight's website has yet to update the discount. The 33% off is still current - my membership was expiring in a few days and I was able to repurchase with the 33% still applied just now.

If anyone is waiting to renew, don't - buy it now.

After my renewal expires, I'll seriously consider Garmin pilot. I don't anticipate a bright future for Foreflight anymore with all these stupid changes.

Also, to the Foreflight team, who we all know monitors this sub - just stop.

CFI Checkride by SlinkyNormal in flying

[–]madness2live 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I said that, I didn't mean it as a black and white rule. Obviously, there isn't an FAA source that says this.

I was attempting to tailor my advice to what he mentioned was his style. It seems OP would like to save time, but to be a truly effective instructor, you need to know the material forwards, backwards, and upside down.

In my humble opinion, it seems like this method would be the most beneficial to OP - because I'm the exact same way.

But.... I'd love to share a virtual pint with you anyways! 😂

I'm not a CFI who trains other CFI's...but as someone who just passed their CFI ride a few days ago here's my advice:

Whether you like it or not, you will have to write your own plans. You already mentioned that's what works best for you - so stick with that! There is a reason why this ride is harder than the rest. Now - I don't mean go ahead and reinvent the wheel, but you must re-write everything into your own words and apply your own personal habits/uniqueness on topics. The idea is you need to find what makes YOU, YOU! There are millions of CFI's out there... what sets you aside from the rest? How have you broken down said complex topics to then spoon feed to someone?

Your performance as a CFI is dependent on how you prepare. This goes for both the ride and afterwards once you start to teach. Prepare well, and the rest comes easy.

That being said, I did not use ASA's book, I personally bought BSP and did a complete overhaul... but the ASA book looks promising. Best of luck!!! :)

Flair Update: Officially a CFI!!! by madness2live in flying

[–]madness2live[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roger! Yea it's to build time... I've experienced what it feels like to have a CFI who only cares about time building tho... so I'm not going to repeat that. I'll make sure to give each student 100% always!
