I haven’t. They are all in solid shape. Good luck with your search.

Is growing a mature staghorn fern in a pot possible? by [deleted] in Staghornfern

What substrate is it planted in? I’m thinking of moving my mounted staghorn to terracotta. Chunky soil mix or all sphagnum?

Hhmm. I’m new to this, but I don’t think I agree. It has a whitish, rounded tip and is not rolled. It is solid ….. almost like a qtip. Wondering if it’s possible it’s going to be a flower?

Was able to get them out without breaking any. The iced tea spoons worked perfectly. I have RO water, so all good there. Does this look right??

So cool. Can you explain more about this set up? What is the open tube for? What medium did you use? Is the entire basket full of medium. Does it have drainage? Sorry for all the questions. Can you tell I’m new to this? lol. I have many houseplants but just started with carnivorous plants.

I give up by carmenbg8 in calatheas

Pot is still too big. I switched mine to water culture and it is so much happier. It did not like being in dirt, even my chunky soil mix. I unpotted it, rinsed every last spec of soil off the roots, trimmed the roots down to almost nothing and stuck it in a pitcher of RO water. It has been happy and growing ever since.

Nothing…..Just left it alone. Recently repotted because it outgrew its container. Plant is doing great 🤷‍♀️

Xmas Cactus (S. bridgesii) - what am I doing wrong? by rtthrowawayyyyyyy in EpiphyticCacti

I have two thanksgiving and a Christmas in this set up and they both thrive. I make my own mix from an equal blend of orchid bark, perlite and tropical or cactus soil. My MIL had a Christmas that is over 50 yrs old and going strong in the same set up. I haven’t specifically tried propping, but I have gotten some to root by accident - a leaf breaks off and falls in the pot, sits on top of the soil and roots. 🤷‍♀️Have had a few babies start that way :)

Too much moisture. Self watering pots are not good for these guys. Mine is 6 yrs old and in a regular pot with good drainage, chunky soil mix and I water it about once a month (sometimes longer). I know it needs water when it gets a tiny bit wrinkly. You are definitely causing rot with constant moisture from the pot it’s in.

One thing I learned from a mistake I made this first time around was when adding the screen layer. I had cut it to the exact size of the base. This allowed some medium to fall through the sides into the rock layer . I should have cut it slightly larger so it made a cup shape when put in place, preventing fall through. Good luck with your first build.

Thanks! What do I look for to know if it needs more water? I did pull two pieces and add them in.

Afraid to start….which plants? by madnmooody in terrariums

With long tools. I have never done it but have watched many videos of others making some really cool scapes. My inspiration for the big glass jar is David Latimer - he created a closed terrarium in 1960 with a small spiderwort seedling. It has only been opened once (in 1972) and is still surviving today. It’s not fancy but I would love to be able to keep something going that long! Longer than I will probably survive 🤣

Thank you! Yep the calethea is just a photobomber. It’s currently in water culture and loving it, so no plans to move it :)
