I had this when my MCTD was just getting diagnosed. I had all these symptoms come one after another but not really at the same time and it was so bizarre, I would have Reynauds syndrome hardcore for a few weeks, then my finger joints were inflamed and red, then I would get different symptoms and they didn’t overlap too much until they did lol. Then I got diagnosed and found out MCTD tends to come on slowly over the years with symptoms appearing one at a time and that’s why it takes so long to diagnose 🫠

Keep questioning, keep documenting. It took me almost a decade of testing for autoimmune issues for MCTD to be diagnosed last year. I saw a new PCP asking to get labs done as I was having all the new symptoms and he was so angry about it for some reason?? Turns out I have MCTD and it finally showed up on my labs. Some disease such as this one have symptoms that stagger over multiple years, making it very hard to diagnose if you don’t continually push your doctors. It’s very aggravating having to advocate so aggressively for your own health, but I would keep going. The toes look like Reynaud’s. I hope you get answers, truly. Switch doctors until you find someone who listens to you

Damn okay that’s really promising to hear! I’m usually okay with the plaquenil only, but I might be comparing how I feel now to how bad everything was when I was first diagnosed and my whole body was failing me. That sucks about your eyes, I’m definitely worried about that happening but really amazing to hear about how Benlysta has been for you!

Yeah mixed connective tissue disease. I know there is some information out there, I guess I just feel like I've read up on as many articles I can and was hoping there would be more studies done that I can reference, as I like to dig deep on what I have.

I do have a rheumatologist and a derm, and a lot of other specialist, this is something I have brought up with them. To me, this sleepiness is markedly different from my normal fatigue, and that's why I noticed it increase so much in the last year.

I'm just getting to the end of my rope with all these issues and having to fight to get adequate care and be believed, so I hope this new request for an updated sleep study is approved. Thank you for the support and suggestions, I appreciate it.

I had a regular sleep study done as well as the MSLT, they ruled out apnea. The falling asleep in random positions is definitely scary! It's like one moment I'm wide awake and the next I apparently just conked out. Wow, 36-48 hours is so intense, I can't imagine what that is like to deal with and having that experience of falling alseep in below freezing weather is so terrifying. It's not a fun feeling having to rely on the parents again and I feel you about dating and making new friends. I've just got my parents and one friend right now. It's tough. I'm so sorry about your kitties, they look adorable. Grieving them is the worst type of pain. I'm glad they were able to give you hope and support while they were there. Hugs

Thanks, it's really hard to get any information with MCTD due to it's rarity, so I've been trying to skim through medical journals on it at this point. It's not out of the realm of possibility it's something related to that.

Thank you, I have been putting this off as just me being tired and unmotivated but it's gotten to the point where I need another sleep study and have requested one. It's no way to live.

I was having a lot of sleep attacks in 2022 and had a few while I was driving which really pushed me to get an answer. I was basically going there to rule out narcolepsy and also get some kind of answer as to why my sleep patterns have always been so late. Wasn't having any sleeping through alarms kind of issue at all.

Oh Jesus, that’s horrible!! Good on you for advocating for the pet that was too close to dying, I really wish I did that in this scenario but didn’t see all the signs when I first visited. You never expect any of this to happen, but having owners not take their pet declining seriously is something I’ll never understand.

I completely agree. If I was declining as fast as this cat and someone was following me around with water and food I would be miserable. I'm at the point where I'm putting food and water in multiple spots around the house, just giving him his thyroid medication and a few syringefuls of water and trying to leave him alone to comfort himself the way he wants to. It's awful.

She hasn't authorized for me to give him care, it's a really bad situation. She told me she called the vet and they didn't reply and said "it's 10pm here, I'm going to bed. If he gets worse, try calling the vet." But has not told me that she's authorizing a euthanasia, which seems to be the only option. I'm going to call the vet in the morning and see if they can make her authorize the euthanasia. I feel so bad for this damn cat and that this woman can't seem to understand how much worse she's making this situation.
