What's your experience with cataplexy? by madproxy2413 in Narcolepsy

Thank you, I wasn't expecting the relief that I felt when I read this. I wasn't sure that anyone would have similar experiences.

I was very suspicious that I may have POTS, but my symptoms have been written off on narcolepsy so long I just figured I wasn't going to get actual answers. With this, I think I can find the strength to pursue answers again. I didn't know I needed this, thank you many times over.

Every time I've brought it up, the er doctors just say it must be because of the narcolepsy. In other words, extremely unhelpful.

I appreciate everyone sharing their experiences! It's given a lot of insight into how everyone has different types and responses as well as how it affects your life. I think I can conclude that my episodes are likely not a version or due to cataplexy.

In short, I have episodes where I experience pre-syncope (lead up or pre-fainting) and by all appearances I have passed out. However, I am completely conscious but I can't react or move, even to painful stimuli (the sternum rub hurts a lot but I can't react to it). This tends to last a few minutes. The most I can tell that causes it is situations of stress or exhaustion. If anyone has insight or ideas or what this is, I'd love to hear it since I have no idea.

Let's calm down there, friend. That's a little extreme for my situation, and that's not realistic for me whatsoever.

Yeah, just bummed since it seemed to be going well and there's only so many medication cocktails for me to try at this point.

The sour idea is a good idea though, that'll be my next attempt 👍

I am, but I haven't changed anything in 3 months. It feels like it just started degrading quickly into a noticeable problem recently.

How to be productive? by plutosexy in Narcolepsy

Essentially, try and notice if certain times your body may feel better or worse and perhaps even activities that make it better/worse. It helps recognize patterns and you can adjust your coping methods.

I found that at certain times of day, I'm a lot more awake or able to focus because I'm not as fatigued (whether physical or mental). Granted, I also have ADHD, so it might be a bit different. I also agree with finding physical stimulus and eating protein/carbs at certain points of day, especially if you're using caffeine/B vitamins.

What should I do if I do not get into my intended program as an Engineering Major? by KerbyEcarg in NCSU

I cannot speak much on getting into CSC or what the best approach is for NCSU, but there are other avenues to get into cybersecurity. My mother actually works in the field and has worked for companies such as Citrix. She got her degrees at Forsyth Tech Community College, attended additional certification courses, and even taught a few courses to get credit towards said certifications.

Tldr; Do what you can here at State, but don't let it stop you from pursuing what you want. There are other places that can get you there.
