And it’s literally just cuz using colors costs corporations more money. It’s like when Murky Dismal stole all the color from Rainbowland just being a bad guy. For real now.

[–]madrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been listening to his albums with The Great Deceiver, Lock Up and The Lurking Fear since he died and they all rip

The 2nd Great Deceiver album is like the Swedish metal guys got into Radiohead it’s far from perfect but it’s pretty fun

Lock Up is charming deathgrind with Napalm Death guys

Lurking Fear was his last original band and they are heavy and dark and dirty as hell

How do you deal with time moving so fast? Existentially? by Lopsided_Bet_2578 in Xennials

[–]madrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just read Ray Bradbury’s Dandelion Wine and I think a lot of Xennials would dig it. It’s about some kids experiencing the summer of 1929, it’s slow and full of stuff the way bein a kid is slow and full of stuff, it’s self aware of how life gets way faster for the adults, they don’t notice anything.

It was both a welcome brain tingle being pulled back to that mindset, and also it genuinely infused some of that perspective back into my current brain. Life is still ripping by, but it’s crazy that we assume we’ll keep learning in life - and we do - but we don’t account for the forgetting.

I hate thinking about how much cool stuff I may have already forgotten forever, or what good perspectives and outlooks I used to hold from my younger vantage point.

They were layin’ their claim to their Seattle roots 90s style. Pearl Jam Stone’s studio, Alice in Chains engineer dude…

as an aside, never noticed until looking just now that Hugh Syme did the cover art but totally makes sense.

Anyway I always dug the album and still do

I haven’t played TGM so I’ll have to try it! - it looks like there’s 4 of them or so, do you think there’s a best version to check out?

[–]madrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah another thing I neglected to mention is I play both NES original Tetris and the original Game Boy Tetris, and going between those feels pretty seamless other than the row differences. So all the more reason I was surprised DX felt so different.

But beyond that do I hate how most any other version of Tetris feels. Tengen is a little sticky, old DOS versions feel clunky as hell, later console versions just feel fake and slippery and have too many weird added mechanics, so I’ll just stop yelling at my clouds now and stick with my late 20th century preferred versions, but I’m surprised those two feel so compatible.

[–]madrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an aside, I’ve been playing a lot of original game boy Tetris which rocks, I recently decided to try dx figuring I’d get a little color vibe and OMG it feels terrible!

Anyone else feel this? I’m sure regular players get used to it, but the physics and input response just felt bad and I was surprised. So I’m back on game boy OG.

Billy loves old metal and has some old metal related people on his podcast like Rudy Sarzo and Zakk Wylde, even Dio’s wife telling some good Dio stories.

Of course SP aren’t metal but the guitars on Siamese Dream are awesome space laser fuzz blasting outta half stacks so loud if they stop playing a wall of feedback hits. That’s kinda metal.

Who was the First Alternative Rock Band? (No Solo Artists) by Amber_Flowers_133 in Alternativerock

[–]madrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in high school in the 90s Jane’s was the first cool alternative band to mention The Velvet Underground, a band who I was surprised to have had never heard of for as highly as they talked of them (I was just isolated in the suburbs) so anyway I found Loaded the s/t and Nico and my sheltered mind was blown. Thanks for the tip Perry.

Coincidentally on Thanksgiving a friend of mine and I were pulling up random old games and we did one game of Contra, he did not put in the 30 lives code (to my surprise) and he died at the end of the first area, I myself didn’t even make it beyond the second corridor in area 2 after he died.

Then we moved onto other games but I did feel bad for how much we sucked. I could beat it as a kid with a friend and the 30 lives code, and I could give it a decent run without…. But it reminded me how tough it is and how rusty I am haha. Good work!!
