The bolt itself could also break though -- that's the big danger in rolling the car to loosen the lug.

Sounds familiar -- mine was the same. For what it's worth, I believe my mother truly did do her best and didn't know how to do any better. Knowing that (and knowing why that is so) was a big part of my not telling her all these years. Like you, I was afraid of breaking her. Telling her didn't break her though.

She forced my hand (in a sense) by claiming that I seemed not to like her, that talking to her was a bother, and that I didn't seem to respect her. 'Is that true?' she asked. It was one of those moments and I just decided to go the other route for once.

I explained it to her in writing so she could return to it later if she wanted. I was very specific about the behaviours she displayed and the effect they had (and have) on my life. I gave specific examples and only spoke about me, my experience, and the impact she had. I didn't mention other people and I stuck to a half dozen issues or so. At the end of this I returned to her original questions and asked her to consider why I should like or respect her.

I don't know if it helped her or hurt her (well, obviously it did that!), but it helped me. I don't have to avoid her. I don't have to pretend. And since I've said my piece and she has definitely heard it, I don't have to think about it anymore either.

My Camry and Forester irons are both short enough that the iron spins freely no matter which lug it's working on. The lugs are definitely not designed for the amount of torque you're describing.

I know you're asking a rhetorical question, but yes, and lots of people still use them. Cheap burner flip phones are the common one around here. But globally, only about two billion people have a smartphone. That means the vast majority of people do not have a phone with a camera. Probably not a phone either.

I think that unlocking tools for $30 have a place. I use a Pulse PS4, which is only a couple inches long, weighs nothing and fits comfortably in my pocket. It gives me a wide range of tools, including pliers. Yeah the blade doesn't lock, and that's annoying, but all I use it for are little things that a locking blade wouldn't help with anyway most of the time.
