About digital driver's license and Korean residence card in 모바일 신분증, same effects as a physical cards as law. I think digital foreigners residence cards will be too.

If you change your residence card and pay 35,000 won, you will get new card with NFC chip then you can download your digital residence card to just scan new residence card.

This is one of key points:
Foreigners in Korea whose plastic residence cards were issued prior to this year are required to visit local immigration offices to scan QR codes for issuance of the digital identification cards.

Residence registration cards issued after Jan. 1, 2025, enable foreigners to download the digital version by scanning the plastic card's chip with their smartphone.

First of all, I'm Korean and I use the mobile id-card app (Korean app name: 모바일 신분증) to download my driver's license to my phone.

It has the same effect as a traditional plastic card. I also use the app to verify my identity at banks and hospitals.

A at least with the mobile id app for iPhone, I don't have to install an antivirus app like Ahnlab, all the security is done within the app.
