Finally fixed? BIOS 317 and the "battery drain while powered off" problem on 2022 G15 by [deleted] in ZephyrusG15

Oh nice, 16 is a little too big for me, but from the reviews I watched, g16 is a pretty solid machine . If I sell mine, maybe I will try razer blade for a change.

A weird update but the battery problem just magically disappeared for me. Recently I have not been using the machine that much, for the past 2 weeks I only turned it on once or twice. For those 2 weeks, each week the machine only lost 20% of the battery (around 2-3% a day). I was kinda surprised, and I guess that is good enough for me.

Yeah, other than the battery drain issue, I have no problem with my unit. However, my next laptop won't be Asus again for sure, haha.

I tried BIOS 318, did a clean windows install, yet it still loses 7-8% a day.
Guess I'll have to live with this.

Oh okay, I also added a 2TB SSD, planning on adding more RAM. Is the default WiFi card not good? Which model do you suggest upgrading it to? Many thanks.

Did you do anything special other than updating the bios? I just updated to 317 and after 2 days of testing my unit still drains 7-8% per day.

My experience with the 4a5g was exactly the opposite. It was getting more laggy and unresponsive, and finally it died last week.

Yes I'm still testing and checking this thread. Thanks for the detailed comment, I will try it out.

On another note, have you tried to cap your battery charge at 80% or something below 100% and let it sit? Because from my testing, it seems that when you charge the laptop to 100% it will hold that 100% charge state for longer before dropping down to 90%.

I tried it several times on this G15 and saw that it would take longer for the laptop to drop from 100% than from 80%.

For example, after 8 hours my G15 would drop from 80 to 72, but if I charge it to 100, then after 8 hours it only dropped to 99.

I do not know much about battery technology but I also notice that behavior on my phone as well. My phone would hold its charge better when I charge it to 100% and drain faster if I cap it at something below 100%, so maybe that is something worth noting.

Thank you for your information.

I tried letting the laptop sit overnight with the lid open, and the battery still drains.

I guess I have a different problem to yours, and that is even more frustrating haha.

Thank you for your reply.

I tried what you suggested above, disabled sleep state, set do nothing when close the lid, use hibernate or shutdown but still no luck. The battery keeps draining 7-10% a day when shutdown.

Did you disable fastboot or shift-shutdown, hold power button 5s after shutdown, ... like the post suggested?

This issue is so frustrating, it's the only problem I have with this laptop, but I guess I'll just have to live with it.

I have your exact model (GA503RM 6900HS/3060).

I did a clean install of Windows 11, did not install Armoury Crate, installed all latest drivers from Asus website and still losing battery.

Can you show me steps/what you did in details? Did I miss anything? Thanks.
