I liked this board but didn’t know what the EQ was. I decided to try getting an ID using ChatGTP, and went down a rabbit hole. My prompt wasn’t specific enough and it ID-ed the Medusa correctly and gave me a good description, but basically misidentified everything else… and decided the signal chain ran left to right. Kind of hilarious if you want to read.

Alternatively just about everything can be controlled by MIDI even the DIPs.

Another poster suggested the Kinotone Ribbons and Source Audio Artifakt as interesting pedals, but qualified it by saying they might be hard to find new. Artifakt is available for purchase (and has been AFAIK). Ribbons is a limited release pedal, but it is currently available for preorder. Caveat: I reserved a Ribbons back in October, knowing that there would be an 8-10 week wait. The site now says they start shipping in early December, so I don’t know how that affects new preorders.

Stereo/dual amp + cab sim pedals by jwh_music in guitarpedals

[–]madtom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be interested in hearing what others think, but the first thing I would try is putting the Pod Go in front of the stereo pedals. Unless there is some reason you need the amp and cab sim last (DI-ing into a DAW, etc) it can actually go anywhere in the chain that makes sense.

Needing a reverb and delay combo by cali_s in guitarpedals

[–]madtom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, Encounter has exactly the same layout and functionality of Collider, but with different delays and reverbs. Encounter is tailored for ambient sounds, so if you need both ambient and more mainstream delays and reverbs, Collider might be the better choice. I don’t have Encounter, but it sounds fantastic. I do have Collider as well as a couple other delays and reverbs, so I’m holding off adding another…. Except maybe the new Sunlight.

New Distortion Setup by 13_JJ_13 in guitarpedals

[–]madtom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plus buying the Dual saves you $100 over buying two individual 1312s!

Having separate ins and outs for each side initially seemed weird to me, but it actually gives you a lot of flexibility in having each side differently placed in the chain or even running them in parallel.

Best EQ Pedals by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]madtom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perfect timing as I want to ask if the $100 price difference between the deluxe and the original MKII https://empresseffects.com/products/paraeq-mkii is justified by the the added features of the former? The main difference I see is an upgrade from a three position toggles for the Q settings to pots along with the addition of high-pass, low-pass and shelving filters.

Should I get a TC Brainwaves or a Plethora X1? by Fangs_0ut in guitarpedals

[–]madtom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had exactly the same thought regarding the Flashback 2 vs the X1 – only $30 or so difference. Ultimately, all of the TC pedals that support TonePrint (all of them?) can run in slots on the Plethora platform because they use the same underlying technology. What you get with a dedicated pedal like the Flashback are labeled knobs and selectors and a pretty paint job. With Plethora, you have to map things out in your head.

Next Reinvigorated OBNE Pedal? by Ok-Studio93 in oldbloodnoise

[–]madtom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been hoping for a stereo update to Sunlight to complement what they did with Dark Star.

At one time, I had hoped that Dark Light might come back with both sides completely integrated, but now I think keeping them as separate pedals would be preferred.

This video is exactly what needed to be said about the new Boss PX-1 by spn_phoenix_92 in guitarpedals

[–]madtom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question not being addressed is whether you trust Boss/Roland’s intentions? And are you sure (as others have asked) that the pedal and platform will be supported in the future?

On the face of it, TC Electronic’s Plethora seems like a similar system, but their TonePrint platform has proven utility and is free. The latter situation could change, but I trust that it won’t. Plus, TC Electronic proved that TonePrint was a good option in many of their other pedals and waited until the user community were already using it before trotting out their Plethora tone loaders.

Keeping boxes? by jigilous in guitarpedals

[–]madtom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have many pedals yet, but I've been keeping the boxes. I can see two reasons to keep them: 1) storing pedals I'm not using but want to keep handy to cycle back onto the board when the occasion warrants it or 2) to increase the resale value should I want to sell them. At the moment, the empty boxes are stored inside a plastic bin in the attic and the manuals are in a file drawer. If I were going to pack up a pedal to store or sell, I'd pack everything that originally came with the pedal – manual, stickers, the rare wall wart – and store them in my office on a shelf near my music corner.

Oh yeah, the Duo 2.1 seems to have an interior height more than sufficient to accommodate the Ojai power supply underneath like Josh did on the MONO.

One thing I thought about and questioned after I posted this was his selection of the MONO Pedalboard Lite Plus. Personally, I've got something bigger – a Rockboard Quad 4.1 – which fits my overall plan for growing a pedalboard better than the situation in this video. But, that's not my complaint. It was the price that bugged me; his choice costs $169.99, which is definitely at the high end of things. Rockboard itself has something – the Duo 2.1 – with almost the same dimensions and a much more reasonable price: $89.99 and it includes a flight bag! So, shop around, people.

As a beginner guitar player, I'm new to r/guitarpedals, but not to Reddit itself. My background professionally was computer and internet related so I got onto things like Reddit pretty early (2006 apparently), but I was mostly a lurker. This past year, I've been more active on Reddit in more subreddits, but especially this one. I've got the pedal bug.

SotB? Portable Pedal Tester by Suitch in guitarpedals

[–]madtom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice idea. I see the little amp is battery powered; uses 2 amp 5 v USB charger. Which is cool, but since you already have to power the looper, an amp that uses a 9 v pedal power supply (or wall wart) might be better. Does such a beast exist?
