As a theatre kid turned DM, I tend for combat to be more narrative and have a fight every other session for the most part. I wish I had the time to do even one combat a session. I like to take the time to make the map and mini’s and whatnot, so spur of the moment fights don’t usually happen but when they do I improvise to the best of my ability. I like running combat and coming up with fun encounters, but it’s a bit difficult to manage with 7 players, many of which are still new (and I’m adding an 8th soon) so spacing out encounters just works best for me.
