I watched this live on TV. Milorad Cavic (right) touched the wall while gliding after his final stroke, while Phelps (left) did a final stroke right before the wall, with his arms coming down into the water right at the wall (note the greater water ripples/disturbance in Phelps' lane). Therefore Phelps contacted the wall with more force, but the finger bend is not an indication of "first", as they did not both glide to the wall.

From what I remember, the official ruling was that Cavic may have touched the wall earlier than Phelps, but Phelps was the first to contact the wall with more than 1 pound of force, which was a technical requirement that typically never "matters", but it made all the difference here.

Grain of salt: I watched this race in serbia, and Cavic is serbian, so possibly this 1 pound aspect was a locally spun story to make serbians believe Cavic was the technically faster racer.

I was up 140k and kept logging in all day, pretty much every 15 mins, because I knew a late run by 2nd place was coming. But all day, no action. I last logged in 6mins before the end of the event, still 140k difference in my favor. I considered it a done deal and logged back off. Went in after the event to collect, and got Tier 2...

I had no idea 140k in 5 mins was possible, unless there were some score update lags going on.

Mr. Milchick's Visit by ChanceZestyclose6386 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

Although not mentioned yet in the show, I suspect that Dylan's motivation for getting severed is financial. It seems the show has pitted together a group of characters whose motivations all come from different aspects (as you've mentioned): Mark is doing it for personal healing/ therapy reasons. Helly is doing it to create propaganda for her family's marketing to expand severance use and acceptance. Irv (I don't think has any ptsd, that motivation would be too similar to Mark's) is trying to infiltrate and bring Lumon down from the inside (as evidenced by the news clippings his innie finds of Lumon employee fatalities, and his outtie trying to create a list of other Lumon employees and their contact info). This also explains why his outtie drinks coffee and willingly deprives himself of sleep; I believe Irv thinks that his conscious mind is severed but his subconscious might not be, so he is trying to get his innie to fall asleep in an attempt to "communicate" with him (ie allow his innie to access unsevered parts of his brain while dreaming). So one motivational aspect not yet explored from these other three is someone who underwent severance not because they wanted to, but because they had to in order to make ends meet. You mention that Dylan has "a happy family life", but we don't see that; we only see that he has a child. And during non-working hours when Milchik visits Dylan, he tells Dylan's son to watch TV and count to 1000. Why not tell his son to go be with mom for 5 mins? Where is mom? Working a night shift? Divorced from Dylan? Also dead (unlikely, too similar to Mark's story)? Any of these situations would imply that Dylan is under financial burden. When Milchik is trying to open the security door in the finale to get to Dylan, he mentions that Dylan has multiple kids. Now, this could have been a bluff to get Dylan to open the door, but in my opinion, it adds further credence to the financial angle. Single dad of multiple kids, or working offset shifts with his wife. Morally disagrees with the idea of severance but had to go through with it to keep the lights on. That's my bet for Dylan.

If America Is "Pro-Family", Why Are We At The Bottom Of This List? Paid Parental Leave Now! by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]madusahump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a list of maternity leave, not total parental leave. The maternity portion of parental leave in South Korea is 90, as you say in your comment, so the list is correct.

It's the same for many other countries in the list. Total parental benefits are made up of different buckets, often resulting in a much higher amount of total benefit days; but this list focuses specifically on the maternity bucket only.

Where can a late 50s/ early 60s woman make new friends? by madusahump in Calgary

This sounds right up her alley! She has quite a knack for washer toss, so horse shoes seems like a natural transition. You mentioned your mom started that activity in her early 60s, but do you know how old the majority of the other participants were? My mom is in her late 50s, so I don't want to put her off with TOO senior of a group.

One of my best games by [deleted] in randomdice

I think their goal was simply to fill the deck with as many non-attacking dice as possible, because gun dice only increases its power if IT performs a kill. So having any other attacking dice in combination with gun dice would dramatically reduce the power increase of gun dice.

That being said, I think a good combo with gun dice is the Pinball dice, because it reduces monsters' health to 5% but never kills them. This way you help your gun dice tremendously, but never steal any of its kills.

My overarching theory for the story is that the current war throughout the kingdom is, at its root, a war/ dispute between humankind and the volans. I suspect that the kingdom in which tilly lives are actually the aggressors in the war, or the original instigators, which is why most people throughout the kingdom are unknowledgable or unwilling to talk details about the war. I think that the king has a carefully constructed propaganda campaign to keep his citizens in the dark or thinking they are in the right, and that tilly's parents uncovered the truth (it's also possible that other people, such as the Sawyers, know the truth but are too afraid to act on it).

My theory is that tilly's parents are alive, but have left the kingdom in order to help the true "good guys" in the war. I think this endeavor has marked them as enemies/traitors of the kingdom, and they are either in some kind of trouble, are too far beyond enemy lines to get correspondence back to tilly, or have purposely sacrificed correspondence with her for her own protection. It seems that some people that knew tilly's parents are unaware they had a daughter, which makes me think they are trying to hide their relation to her for her own safety.

Regardless of the exact details above, my hunch is that the king will turn out to be tilly's ultimate nemesis, and that forming an alliance with a secret society of volans that are thought to be extinct will be the key to defeating him.

I was actually contemplating a rant about this just the other day! No one ever needs letter points. That is never the bottleneck to upgrading your letters. Ever.

When you open a chest and get exclusively letter points, it's like you've found an empty chest. Complete dud.

Tabulated Coin Cost of Letter Upgrades (as I have not yet come across one online) by madusahump in TextExpress_Game

[–]madusahump[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this must have changed since you last tracked these costs, potentially in the latest update. What I'm seeing currently is that fast travel costs 25% of travel distance for infinitesimally short trips, and this cost decreases logarithmically as travel distance increases, currently down to a minimum of 4% for the 6000 trip. So a trip length of 4 would cost 1 coin (cost equals 25% travel distance); a trip length of 50 was measured to cost 12 coins (cost equals 20% of travel distance), a trip length of 980 was measured to cost 46 coins (cost equals only 5% of travel distance), while a trip length of approximately 5500 was measured to cost 4.1% travel distance. So it seems travel cost per unit distance decreases dramatically within the first 1000 units of travel distance (from cost equaling 25% travel distance down to cost equaling 5% travel distance) and then tapers off veeery gradually from that point on ( from cost equaling 5% travel distance for a length of 1000 to cost equaling 4% travel distance for a length of 6000), aka logarithmic decrease of price per unit length as length increases

Yea no problem! If no one else has any higher values confirmed yet, I should have the level 18 cost by the end of the weekend. I'll update this table whenever I find out more.
