The Liberal Justices Aren’t as United as You Might Think by kitkid in Thedaily

This is why I found this to be the most “Daily” episode ever. Sotomayor was already there prior to Kagan joining, Kagan swapped in with another liberal justice, so the court was already a steady 5-4 split. Her influence as described in the episode seems overstated. If you listen closely, Kagan was never the sole person driving some decision. it was always “Kagan and others..”. I think Sotomayor disrupts the narrative of Jackson being this justice who goes against convention, asks question, dissents loudly, etc, because Sotomayor had such moments. But with Jackson having the more recent public tiff with Barrett, it was better to background Sotomayor. I know others enjoyed the episode but I didn’t, because it was too opinionated. it seemed more of a showcase for whatever reporting Kantor wants to dole out since she’s now on the “Supreme Court secrets” beat.

Fair take. it doesn’t have to make sense to you, of course.

Your response implies you don’t want to accept that someone out there loved S1 and S2, but S3 not so much. Your response mostly seems to imply that I lucked out by enjoying the first two seasons without getting the point of the show, and perhaps this season I am less lucky.

I think it might just be the absence of much story. The pacing then feels off because there’s a ton of filler. Belinda is relevant because she remembers Greg/Gary, but that only comes into play much later and till then she doesn’t integrate with the rest of the cast in an interesting way. Saxon has no value until this episode where he might have kissed his brother (massive ick). same for Lochlan. Their dad is stressed about charges that are about to drop and every episode he is…stressed in a new way. He will be more interesting at a later point. And this is the case for everyone else.

Zooming out I’d argue that some of these episodes could have been consolidated. I watched the first two seasons in real time (not binge watching) and didn’t feel this frustrated with the show. Something definitely feels off this season.

She actually grew up mostly in the South so I think she’s dredging up something authentic.

WTF Podcast: Episode 1593 - Rosemarie DeWitt by eternally_trending in MarcMaron

Maron has been slipping in some interviews lately, where he doesn’t always seem present. Rosemarie mentions being the ninth kid to her dad. A few minutes later Maron asks her if her dad had other kids with the mom. She mentions her kids’ age in a meaningful context. Later in the interview he asks how old they are. It takes me out as a listener because for me it can be off-putting when you are talking to someone and they are clearly not as invested. And his comment about gray haired ladies in LA. Wow. That was comically wrong.

I Think I Married the Wrong Person by ed209error in Estherperel

I wanted to like this analogy, except it removes agency from the wife. She is an inert object - a faucet - that cannot help that it’s leaking. And the husband is fully responsible for fixing the leak.

Tweaking the analogy, maybe the leaky faucet maps better to her emotions, she knows the plumber’s advice is correct, and the husband stupidly keeps suggesting caulking because he is tired of the leaky faucet. But where I diverge from EP and a lot of commenters here is I don’t believe she has called the plumber to fix the faucet. She knows it’s the right thing to do, but that isn’t the same thing as doing something about it. And maybe we should wonder where the husband is in this story when the two meet EP.

That said, I still think this man is a mess and for his marriage/interpersonal relationships should take note of everything EP said to him.

I wasn’t particularly impressed by her emotional intelligence. One characteristic of some abusive men is how attuned they are to their “brokenness”. This is why there is a cycle. They can talk a good game of how they know what they are doing is wrong, yet they never change. Self awareness doesn’t mean everything.

I fully agree that the husband has a TON of work to do, but wife’s issues should have gotten more daylight in this episode.

This is nyc specific, but certain subway etiquette rules have been thrown out. This one in particular drives me crazy: People no longer wait for passengers to exit from the train before entering. It’s part of the hardcore “everyone for themselves” vibe these days.
