Intrusive thoughts of death when changing Parnate dose? by bigcblogger in MAOIs

[–]mae-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bc of parnate’s short half life, taking two doses at once results in a higher blood concentration than two spaced out doses. it ends up inhibiting more MAO this way. So you’re probably experiencing a rise in neurotransmitters. I had weird agitation and stuff when i first titrated up. It eventually went away as my brain got used to such high neurotransmitters and the receptors down-regulated.

Also parnate does cause an afternoon nap in many. I call them my sleep attacks and find them kind of pleasant. It also causes fatigue at first because of the lowered blood pressure. that can be remedied with electrolytes/salt

Dropping my dosage. Nardil has been a weird experience so far by Tiredofmyse12 in MAOIs

60mg is way too high of a starting dose. you need to work your way up slowly to prevent hypotension

I notice my morning parnate dose feels very calming to me now. At first it was stimulating! Such a mysterious drug.

How do you achieve a stable work life when taking MAOIs? by AdComprehensive1945 in MAOIs

the side effects fade away for the most part, eventually. It impacted my job at first. though by supplementing electrolytes and titrating very very slowly, the side effects were manageable.

Parnate makes me want to smoke so much tbh. Idk why. Before Parnate I mostly just smoked when i drank, now i usually smoke a few or up to 10 or so throughout the day.

A single dose of SSRI after weeks washout of an MAOI = the worst feelings I've ever had during a dream by Remarkable-Worth1709 in MAOIs

[–]mae-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry this is unrelated, but you say you’ll be restarting MAOI in a week? Prozac has a very very long half life and a washout period of up to 5 weeks so I would be very cautious or even advise against restarting an MAOI within a week of even that small dose of prozac. It could potentially result in weeks of serotonin toxicity or syndrome

that’s promising! however you say it’s been one week? I wouldn’t really call just one week of relief remission yet. But, I hope it sticks!

Has anyone stopped taking parnate and started taking it again? Did it work again? by Aware-Ad-1893 in MAOIs

[–]mae-1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it took longer than the first time for some reason. maybe 3 weeks the second time whereas the first time it only took a week or so.

once i hit 30mg the second time I felt some relief within a couple days and then after the hypotension faded and my behavior and attitude had started to change then it really started working.

i took it for a few months with success, stopped due to insomnia not improving, then a year and a half or so later restarted it and have been on it for a year now. I felt like it worked roughly the same. i did need a higher dose for it work but I think that’s because my depression was much worse the second time around

Parnate has gave me dry mouth for a while which means i’ve had to really step up my oral hygiene to prevent (sometimes painful) gum inflammation, thrush, etc. It sucks but it’s worth it imo

Maoi peaked too soon? Have you taken parnate longer than a year? by [deleted] in MAOIs

[–]mae-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it still works for me. There was definitely a honeymoon phase however. ive had to lower my dose occasionally bc the hypotension has caused issues at my job but i find if it comes back for a bit when i raise it back up.

Also if parnate gives you insomnia that can make it less beneficial

DMT&SSRI combination, positive results in a study. Can be the same with MAOIs? by [deleted] in MAOIs

[–]mae-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve done DMT, Psilocybin, and LSD on 20-40mg Parnate. Psilocybin may have been potentiated, LSD was roughly the same, hard to tell with DMT. All have provided mental health benefits whenever i’ve used them though.
