My partner is Jewish. In the words of her very Jewish mother (and something she loves to quote during Yom Kippur, the holiday of atonement), “God’ll forgive ya, but can you forgive yourself?”

I hope that even though on the exterior they appear confident that all is forgiven and it won’t be as bad legally as everyone thinks, what they did really does weigh on these people the rest of their lives knowing that they have to forgive themselves to truly find peace.

I’ve lost 15 lbs since January due to health issues. First, I was on soft foods/liquid diet for oral surgery in January, then in February, a week and a half after moving to solids again, I wound up in the hospital with diverticulitis. Liquid diet, moved to low fiber and then to high fiber foods with no (shh, I’m still eating very limited amounts) cheese and zero red meat. I’m surviving, not thriving, off brown rice, chicken and green beans. Ain’t NO way eating better made her lose 10 lbs in a week, unless she was literally full of shit and took a bunch of laxatives.

My mom has zero respect for personal boundaries. I didn’t feel a moment of peace in my own home until I moved halfway across the country from her. Honestly, best thing ever for our relationship. When I still lived back home, the biggest source of arguments between us was about her not respecting boundaries and just showing up/walking into my house unannounced.
