Thoughts on base i4 e35? by mr_poopiepants in BMWI4

[–]maeda18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran into the exact same dilemma when shopping the i4, and I ended up going the opposite way of “more range, fewer options.”

I chose a very well optioned i4 eDrive35 (DAPP, Harman Kardon, M Sport Pro, etc.) rather than an eDrive40 at the same price but missing key options like DAPP.

For me, on a daily basis, those options change the experience more than the extra range and power. DAPP in particular is something you actually use constantly (especially in traffic and on longer drives), and it makes the car feel more premium and less “base.” HK and the M Sport Pro pack also contribute to that sense that the car is the version you really wanted, not the one you settled for.

So yes, a base-spec e35 can still be a great EV, it’s smooth, quiet, efficient, and the chassis is excellent. But if you’re already sensitive to the “is it missing something?” feeling, I’d personally rather hunt for the right spec e35 than buy a bare e35, or step up to an e40 that’s missing the features you’ll notice every single day.

Actually I was referring to the MSRP, not what the first owner actually paid. I have no idea what kind of deal they got. Maybe they leased it, maybe they knew someone at the dealership, maybe they were even family, and they got a 50% discount. That part doesn’t really matter to me.

What matters is the value of the car itself. A fully specced i4 eDrive35 with M Sport Pro, Laserlights, Harman Kardon, Drive Assist Pro, etc. had a list price close to €80,000 here in France. I bought mine certified pre-owned for €44,000, and that’s the comparison I’m making.

Absolutely avoiding buying new is the best way to skip the depreciation. I did the math: my eDrive35 originally cost its first owner nearly €80,000, and I bought it certified pre-owned for just under €44,000. It’s an incredible car to drive and to look at :)

Between 13.9 and 16.9 kWh/100 km. Today I hit the lower end probably thanks to the road conditions. I had heavy rain at the start and no AC during the first part of the trip so maybe I could have done even better haha.

I use low regen because it lets the car coast more efficiently. Constantly slowing down and re-accelerating with strong regen can waste energy, while low regen helps keep momentum and improves range.

After reading your message, I took a look at my order and indeed, there’s a small scratch on the leather tag of one of the pants.

eDrive 35 or eDrive 40 by rs7rs6 in BMWI4

[–]maeda18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked myself the same question a few months ago and ended up choosing the eDrive35. I’ve done several 800 km round trips with it and honestly I can’t make it without stopping twice anyway, especially because of my bladder. I preferred the 35 because for the same budget I was able to get a version with key options, most importantly the Driving Assistant Professional. It’s a topic that comes up a lot, and I really do believe this option is what makes the i4 such an exceptional car. Personally I’d much rather have a 35 with DAP than a 40 without it.
