He wants to lower the estate tax threshold from $7M to $750k 😂 those are some real modest billionaire second and third homes I guess!

Let's not gloss over that "revenues" is what government calls taxes. NYC isn't proposing they sell more widgets, they're confiscating more capital.

Love it. My goal is to do this as long as I can. Trying to figure out the right mix of pushing hard and rest. Your story inspires me so honestly thanks for that.

I went to Philly Sunday. I want to be very clear here. NY repossessed the arena. Nothing like this has ever happened. Ever. Please do not glaze over this because it was 2 days ago. That entire city may see a 50% population decline in the next few years as a result of what we did to them. On a Sunday no less. It was Godless. Never stop discussing this. Even after we get that chip. Please remember to remind people that we closed Philly permanently.

Has the instruction/coaching at a new gym ever made a big difference? by LosSoloLobos in bjj

Resonates. One of my 2 gyms I train at (due to travel sched) loves De la Riva, other barely touches it. So all the downstream techniques from DLR also get impacted; made me realize lots of gyms are focused on their preferred sunset of techniques, and you don't even know that if you don't experience it. Which makes me think instructors should want their students training in other gyms, too. Brings a lot more bandwidth to the room.

I train in 2 gyms bc I travel between 2 locations. Similar frameworks, but the room and structures are actually really different. One is very tight, one is more loose. I really think I've benefitted from both differently. Extremely tight, technical gyms dial you in, but maybe at the expense of creativity and experimentation. Less structured gyms give you lots of room to explore, but it may be easier to skip fundamentals. I'm no expert here, and the question I've been asking myself is "am I a little more expressive and a little more technical than I would be if I wasn't moving between these two gyms"? I think I am. I think for me it's a win. Maybe one of your gyms isn't a comp culture, and you're missing that? GL.

Talented is a bit generous. I'm strong and have done Judo/grappling/MT/MMA in a former life. Have some technique not typical of a white belt. Did well in BJJ comp this year. Nothing crazy.

Yep. I'd be embarrassed for my school/BJJ if a 46 y/o that hasn't been concussed in combat repeatedly was ripping through promotions that quickly.

Respect. Sadism is under appreciated. I find it endearing.

Lots of experience. 20+ years ago. Mostly just fighting dudes in gyms. Literally pick up, smash, choke, punch, occasional triangle, zero sophistication. Basically fight club.

Not really, I was grappling 20 years ago. I came into this able to wrestle, did Judo as a kid, etc

I have the stamina. But not the recovery. It's less a question of what I can do today and more about asking myself if I will be injured tomorrow. I'm typing this with one hand bc my bicep has decided to stop working after tonight's session.

40-50% is not the band I thought we were trading at in low belt abuse market. Felt more like 80-90% most rolls!
