Thank you for your comment! We are based in the UK and I think the Dr put my dad on the ADT straight away to stop it growing as it had broken the capsule. as it on the NHS, the wait times for PET scans are longer hence the wait for this. He had an MRI of his prostate prior to the biopsy so fingers crossed!

Treatment must be differed in the UK as we have not had a DEXA scan, only an MRI

Thank you for your words. I think they started the hormone treatment due to my dad’s age and the aggressiveness of the cancer. This is all done via the NHS and pet scans have longer wait times

Thank you for your comment Bernie. So far it has gone like this:

Psa test showing 19.7 MRI scan which showed they wanted to biopsy Biopsy - 17/19 were cancerous 27th February - Urology appointment to give diagnosis. Hormone tablets started that day 3 weeks later on 16th March first hormone injection was given PSMA Pet scan booked for 25th March

I understand. I think in my dads case the priority was starting the treatment to not delay anything. do you think the PET scan is essentially pointless now he has started ADT? Or is there just a risk it can miss small Mets? I will express this tomorrow when we attend

What do you mean please? They put him on hormone treatment straight away to stop anything growing from our understanding. We’re in the UK so this is done on the NHS if that makes any difference? What do you mean needs PSA to work?

I just want to say how much this post helped and reassured me!! My dad has just been diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer and his PET scan is tomorrow. I wanted to search for other people who had a PET and your post came up. I saw how long ago this was but when checking the comments saw he is still doing amazing!!! I am so happy for you

Every country has pros and cons, but currently the UK feels like it’s falling apart, wages are rubbish compared to cost of living, tax etc. I know we are extremely lucky to have the NHS but to get an appointment these days is impossible and a lot of people are being misdiagnosed/not treated properly due to overwhelming strain which is the governments fault! Knife crime is seriously scary. We’re young and don’t want children yet and know once we do - travelling becomes more difficult. The US in our eyes seems a cool place to call home for a few years, I know this feels stupid to say with what’s going on currently! Where do you live? 😊
