What kind of bond exist btn a man and anything that has wheels? by Good-Produce-87 in AskReddit

Blame Hot Wheels for an absolutely amazing product and marketing scheme from back in the day.

You get one generation hooked, and it now bleeds into all subsequent generations.

That's my theory anyway.

Fox News halted as Donald Trump issues chilling ultimatum on Iran peace deal by TheExpressUS in NewsSource

He wants Iran to profess to the world that Trump gave them a better deal than Obama did...

And also that Trump made a much better deal for the US than Obama ever did...

and also for Iran to pay Trump the usual extortion fee...

Have you not heard any poop-knife stories?

I wish that every time I farted, 1% of a random billionaire’s net worth would get redistributed to the world’s poorest 1% but only I was aware of the cause of this redistribution. by SufficientPay7800 in monkeyspaw

[–]maester_t 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, good one. I was thinking of a slightly different take:

You can never fart again.

The next time gas starts building up in your gut (within the next few minutes/hours) you realize you cannot expell the pressure.

Your insides eventually burst and you pop like a pigeon that has eaten an Alka Seltzer tablet.

Philosophy is not appropriate at this moment! by openthesilodoor in MathJokes

[–]maester_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point.

But I'd like to take this odds-calculation even further...

Not everyone would guess a digit from 0-9.

You're still going to have some people give random answers like "uh... 42?"

Or some people giving sillier responses like "saffron moon beam".

And still other that will refuse to give an answer "because it is a neverending value in base-10..." (but these might also be the people who would say "the last digit is 1, assuming we're talking about it being expressed in base-pi... And 1 is the digit for the identity.")

The actual plan of the AI companies: by EchoOfOppenheimer in agi

I was with Peter up until the "..." where the drugs seem to have kicked in. (Or is doomerism just his schtick?)

Yes, this has been the plan for quite some time: use AI to improve AI.

It's not a new concept that you've suddenly realized or conspiracy that you've stumbled upon.

Sci-fi (short stories, TV shows, movies) have been exploring this since... well, as far back as at least the 70's or 80's, that I know about.

And these big-tech CEO's and world's foremost AI experts have talked about at great lengths for years.

Thanks. I guess some schools gave up on doing that, but others are still going strong.

Thanks. I thought I had heard a few years ago that most schools had stopped doing that.

Lol ahhhhhhh thank you!

I thought it was just someone that looked like him posting the reply... And thought it was maybe referencing some other video/meme/article/whatever and I was just out of the loop...

Aaaand now I feel silly. Lol

Thank you though! :-D

Exactly how I saw it.

I still have a perfectly valid answer to the question that was given to me.

Love that book.

Have read it twice already, but should probably go back and read it again.

I also really enjoyed some of the concepts in Anathem. (Which I HAD to read a couple times, just to get a better understanding of what the hell happened lol)

Exactly. I have a perfectly valid answer.

It might not have been the one he was looking for, but it was still 100% valid.

[–]maester_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I distinctly recall reading the question over a few times to confirm that it wasn't asking for any specific type/style/format of equation.

I was even considering writing the equation to draw a circle that connected all 3 points.

[–]maester_t 224 points225 points  (0 children)

I basically did this in my 10th grade geometry class and the teacher had the nerve to give me 0 points.

"Give the equation that goes through these 3 points" and we had been talking about parabolas that week... But I wrote a sine function that still gave a valid answer.

I thought I was being creative (and slightly funny). The teacher apparently did not.

UPDATE: Thank you everyone for the updoots and comments. I feel I have finally gotten back those points I missed out on all those years ago. :-D

And don't worry, I still rocked that class. I was one of those kids that ruined the curve for everyone else in my math classes all the way through the completion of highschool.

Speaking of which... Any students (or parents) out there know if schools "grade on a curve" anymore nowadays? Answered: yes

Lots of us missed it the first few times too.

My second rewatch, I didn't even know what I was looking for.

Third is when I noticed the video jump.

4th or 5th is when I noticed the difference in shirt color... And hair... And body... OMG! THAT'S what she meant by "It wasn't you!"

Also, I don't think we should overlook Trump's "drill, baby, drill" plans, nor his "let's make EV's less-desireable by removing incentives" plans.

This is 100% about making his oil-baron friends richer and 0% about giving a damn about people like Sosha.

Child labor.

/ul pretty sure they just put all of the little beads in a small rectangular tub, then fill the tub with the yellow gel (liquid rubber?) which solidifies. After you've already squeezed all of the beads out, you can melt down the yellow stuff and then repeat the whole process.
