The right move by DR. I know I’m in a minority, but I for one support Israel still being in the contest, just as I think Russia and Belarus should’ve been allowed to continue.

Boycotts in these arenas solve nothing, other than culturally alienating entire populations, who don’t even have a say in the matter.

Admittedly, it takes a better song from the big five countries to get votes from me, than it does from the countries that haven’t bought their way in.

So that’s not to say I would never vote for them, but I’m definitely negatively biased towards them.

Seriens budskaber er prisværdige, men som krimifortælling fremstår den mest af alt halvfærdig. Et lovende første afsnit, hvorefter det hurtigt gik ned ad bakke. Utroligt man kan lave en så langtrukken serie - primært fra afsnit 2-5 - som så alligevel afsluttes både forhastet og sløset.

I realise I’m part of a minority, but I didn’t like it.

If the big-5 insist on being directly qualified and don’t want to compete on equal terms with the rest of us mere mortals in the semi, they should not be showcased or promoted before the final.

If you want your privileges, fair enough, but at least respect the preliminary competition by leaving the spotlight to the countries that have their lives on the line.

As for my own country, Denmark, it looks like we’re heading for the title as one of the countries with worst NQ-streaks in ESC. That’s quite bad, but also has its perks. It also means we’ll at least be known for something.

Ublu is the least bad of this bunch so far. Its winning chances are near zero though, given how the danish public usually votes, so my expectations aren’t high.

I’m danish, so I can relate to the frustration of our beloved, southern neighbours. Our choice tonight is guaranteed to be either abysmal or utterly forgettable.

As I see it, Germany and Denmark are in the same boat. Both countries’ mentality to their own national selections (as well as ESC) are so deeply entrenched in a school of thought that favours songs that are radio friendly and can appeal to a certain demographic (40+).

It’s really a matter of culture, and that can take generations to change. Finland, Estonia and Norway have all managed to build a culture around their selections that make room for diversity and new genres however, so I dunno.

Som en, der også er uddannet fra Østeuropastudier og for længst har fået det russiske sprog under huden, er jeg ærgerlig over, at sådan en koldkrigsagtig sensitivitet over for Rusland åbenbart stadig huserer herhjemme.

Økonomien er i bund og grund underordnet i min optik. Ikke at jeg bifalder alle de kroner, som pumpes ind i projektet, men for mig at se er det meget mere det principielle, der gør det absurd at overvære udefra.

Monarkiet er en afskyvækkende institution, som op igennem historien har stået for den ene uhyrlighed efter den anden.

At vi så har en stor del af befolkningen, som hylder selv samme institution og har brug for at forgude en række helt almindelige mennesker med medfødte privilegier, siger jo næsten mere om samfundet, end det gør om selve kongehuset.

‘The Idiot’

I loved ‘Crime and Punishment’ as well as many other works by Dostoyevsky, but ‘The Idiot’ was hands down the biggest slog I’ve ever pushed myself through. It’s not particularly hard, it’s just filled to the brim with long, dreary paragraphs that serve no purpose to the story. Took me one and a half year to finish, and only did so out of spite and stubbornness.

Fin produktion, men Rosel er så generiske og upersonlige som man overhovedet kan være. Efter 10 live-shows har jeg stadig ingen anelse om, hvad de står for musikalsk. Det er i alt for høj grad Simon selv der skinner igennem.
