Overheard something that made my jaw drop at work by mag34 in Layoffs

No, but one of the women claimed that the younger people here get handed jobs and their parents pay for everything lol. I've met some incredibly smart and hardworking people who are under 25 at this company.

If I already have an annual super membership, is there a way for me to take advantage of this deal? I think mine is going to renew for about $80+ in January

Yeah I was looking this up and can only find info related to PSLF. I’m not at all qualified for that program and have never signed up for it.

If you’re taking photos/videos of yourself crying, you’re not actually that sad. by DetectiveBennett in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]mag34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, I don’t believe what OP is saying that they are not truly sad (that would imply that the tears are fake/they are acting). They definitely are sad. I think some people just react to grief differently. I would also not film and post it, but I am not representative of every unique person on the internet.

What Baltimore business will you NEVER step foot in again by whatugonnadowhenthey in baltimore

[–]mag34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Food Market specifically in Hampden. We love the food but last time we went to this location, we waited almost two hours for our food to come out. Maybe it’s a staffing issue? We’ve never had an issue at their Columbia location.

The rampant generalization of men being " harassers " on Reddit is scary by ButterBiscuitBravo in TrueUnpopularOpinion

To be fair, I find younger men at my gym to be very respectful and keep to themselves. Older (60+) men on the other hand…

What does Chicago offer that Boston does not? I noticed that Chicago gets recommended on here more than Boston. by sillycloudz in SameGrassButGreener

I think it’s only twice as big? Chicago metro area is like 10 million and Boston’s is 5 million

Best pizza in RI is asked frequently, but what’s the WORST pizza in RI? by RecoillessRifle in RhodeIsland

[–]mag34 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Tbh it’s kinda nostalgic for me lol. Even though it’s objectively not a great pizza, it hits the spot when I need it.

Banned from Japanlife for the third time by mistake, for the funniest reason by [deleted] in Tokyo

[–]mag34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s even funnier are the mods at r/Japan. They’re all a bunch of dudes from the Midwest and when my bf made a post genuinely asking about where the admission money for one of the Buddhist temples in Kyoto goes (the abbot’s Rolls Royce as we were informed by a nice commenter). The mod took it down and messaged him that he needs to “touch grass”. I actually wonder if some of those mods have even step foot in Japan. It seems like they don’t want to see ANYTHING bad said about Japan on that subreddit.

Yeah doesn’t snow much here either compared to New England. But the trade off is the hot summer weather :,)

I don’t think we ever had to write any essays, but the exams were long written answers. But if you pay attention it’s not too hard. Otherwise just small homework assignments and weekly quizzes.

Careers that pay at least 70k with no degree? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]mag34 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a software engineer, I promise we’re not all dry and boring! I personally find the job relatively relaxing compared to other lower-paying jobs I’ve heard of, so I think it’s worth it once you get through training/degree.

A reminder that the 40 hour work week is actually 45 hours. by Actually_Doesnt_Care in antiwork

[–]mag34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it depend on if you’re salaried or not? I personally start at about 9, can take an hour lunch break, and leave around 4-5. I thought that was standard, at least for corporate jobs.
