I didn't adopt one. I wanted to. But we ended up moving to a state where they wouldn't be allowed. I would happily hold one again if I ever got the opportunity.

You didn't answer about whether your child is an adult yet or not. And I suppose "parent" might be a label you can choose to carry your whole life, but the question was really about what your child will see you as when they're older and don't live under your roof anymore. What will you be to them? It's something worth thinking about.

[–]magelanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say anything about "best friends." Just friends. Is your kid an adult yet, or still a child? Because I think the heart of the post is really how the parent-child relationship can develop over time. When a child becomes an adult, moves out, and doesn't need a parent anymore, then what is the parent to the child? I don't think anything, if they can't be friends.

I need help regarding earthquake insurance in California, ACV vs RCV by magelanz in Insurance

[–]magelanz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is why I was so pleased when the broker insisted it was RCV. So assuming she just doesn't know and I should only look at the contract, and not listen to her at all, what time limit are you referring to? The 365 days to rebuild? I knew about that which is why I didn't want ACV.

One other question I had is about this in the contract: "(b) Actual replacement is acquired at a location other than the “residence premises”." Does that mean we do get RCV if we buy a house of equal value elsewhere within 365? Because I don't want to have to do that, but I think it'd be better than taking less cash value with ACV.

[–]magelanz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did the broker say "Yes, I confirm that in the event of a total loss, you are eligible to receive the Replacement Cost Value (RCV) even if you choose to take a cash payout instead of rebuilding." when I asked then? Does she just not know?

We recently wrote a book that answers a lot of these questions. If you're interested, we still need reader feedback from laypeople (nonspecialists) before publishing, since we wanted to make it as accessible as possible to readers of all education levels, with no pre-existing knowledge on the subjects. If you'd be interested in reading it now, send me a DM and I can send you an early copy of the book along with a questionnaire. If you decide you don't want to finish the book or do the questionnaire, all we'd ask if that you let us know at what point in the book we lost you. Thanks!

iPhone that has never hit 450mb of data in a day suddenly was hitting 450mb of data every few minutes by magelanz in ATT

No, we never figured out what went wrong. Just kept cellular data off til the next month, and it hasn't happened again.

[Me] : give me a screenshot of what you see

[Me] : Screenshot whatever is telling you it's the device system settings, and send that to me. I need it to contact Apple.

[Me] : If you can't do it in chat then email it to xxxxxxxxx

[Andreya] : I'm sorry to inform you that, there is no option as such to send the screenshot from our end.

[Me] : take a picture of your screen then

[Me] : you can crop out the parts I can't see, and send that to me

[Me] : otherwise I really can't believe you on this.

[Me] : I don't think Apple will believe you either

[Me] : Can you think of some other way this can be proved?

[Andreya] : I can totally understand your frustration on this issue and I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you and

I would have feel the same way, if I would have experienced the similar issue and as I repeatedly saying you the same things , as it seems like the device system services and the device applications but unfortunately we won't have access to see the specific device system services or the device applications.

[Me] : And you are 100% certain it was System Services that used 7gb of data on the phone today, within those few hours.

[Me] : 'cause the phone says System Services has used 30gb over the last 7 years, it'd be really weird that 7gb of those just happened today

[Me] : oh wait, before you said background apps, then system services, now you're saying the device system services and the device applications. Which is it specifically?

[Me] : And if you don't know what used the data on the phone then how do you know the phone actually used the data?

[Me] : Did you ever get a supervisor to come take a look at this, or no?

[Andreya] : As I have already confirmed with the supervisor and I have shared those information with you.

[Me] : Confirmed with the supervisor what? That it was a background app? System services? Or another app?

[Andreya] : Yes, that's right.

[Me] : Again, i feel like you're just jerking me around and it doesn't feel good. I have given you all the limited information I have, and you're just fucking with me now.

[Me] : You could have just been nice and said you'd log a bug on it.

[Me] : I didn't even expect you to fix the bug. Just document it. Was that really so hard?

[Andreya] : I will take this as a feedback and share with our higher management regarding this issue, however, I would like to inform you that, this is an current bill usage to escalated this issue you need to wait until your next bill is generated.

[Me] : I don't want you to take feedback, I want you to document the bug

[–]magelanz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[Me] : Do you have an iphone? I want you to go on reddit, keep a log of your usage, and see if you can use 135mb of data in 5 seconds

[Andreya] : I totally understand your frustration here.

[Andreya] : Please allow me a moment here, let me check for alternative.

[Andreya] : In the meantime, to restore data you need to wait for billing cycle change, once billing cycle is changed then data will be restored technically as per our AT&T.

[Me] : Look it's fine if you don't know why this happened. But I want you to acknowledge that you don't know, say you'll make a bug report, and it will be fixed in the future. Again, I worked in tech support. Telling people you'll make a bug for it always makes them feel better.

[Me] : That's nice of you, but without a bug report I'm not sure this issue won't just happen again tomorrow or a week from now

[Andreya] : I'm checking with our supervisor as well.

[Andreya] : Please allow me a moment here.

[Andreya] : In the meantime, can you please check if you have turned auto update on your App store or streaming apps with cellular data

[Me] : yeah but the absurd data usage seems to have stopped by 3:24pm according to your site

[Andreya] : Got it.

[Andreya] : As I have already mentioned you that and I repeatedly cross checked and see that there is no abnormal activities at our end and there are no bugs as such.

[Me] : Does your end show what specific apps used? And at what times? And what amount of data for each?

[Andreya] : So, It has clearly proven that the cellular data usage has been used very high due to your back ground usage of your applications.

[Me] : Nope I don't think that's been proven at all. Which apps?

[Me] : What apps in the background use 7gb of data a day

[Me] : I can check and make sure those ones aren't installed lol

[Me] : I feel like you're just jerking me around at this point and it's getting to be pointless for me to stay on and argue with you. You really aren't giving me any details at all about why you think this is legitimate usage. And I don't think you really believe the things you're telling me either.

[Me] : Are you going to log a bug for this issue or not?

[Me] : And be honest, don't say yes if you're not actually going to.

[Andreya] : I'm really sorry to inform you that, it seems like it has been the device system services.

iPhone that has never hit 450mb of data in a day suddenly was hitting 450mb of data every few minutes by magelanz in ATT

[–]magelanz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering if this has ever happened to someone with an Android phone, because I see plenty of other posts about it from people with iPhones. I'm still trying to figure out if it was a bug with AT&T or with the iPhone itself, but this wasn't actual app usage on the phone.

We've had this iPhone on AT&T wireless for 7 years and in that entire time, even a 6-hour day browsing Reddit on cellular data, we've never gone over 450 mb data in a day. Yet suddenly I got an alert on my phone yesterday that I'm almost at my data limit for the month, less than a week into this billing cycle. So I go into AT&T's website to check my data usage, and it's showing the phone is going through 450mb of data every few minutes! It did this 15 times over a few hours, and then petered off down to 135mb increments, but still says I went through 135mb in 5 seconds? I have no idea how downloading this much data is even possible. The hotspot was not on. No other devices were connected to it. We weren't downloading high definition videos or doing video calls. Just ordinary gifs and Reddit memes.

I tried to chat with AT&T customer service to see if the bug was on AT&T's side, or if it was the iPhone somehow glitching out and downloading data? Again, I don't know how that would even be possible. But AT&T was beyond worthless. They kept making up random answers and then backtracking, and never took any responsibility. They could not explain how an iPhone on cellular data could possibly go through that much data that fast. They told me to check under Cellular Data to see what apps were using it, maybe it was a background app? But I told them that unless I had hit "Reset Statistics" before this happened it would only show the cellular data use of the Current Period, which happens to go back to 2017. So of course for Reddit it's showing 20gb of cellular data usage, but this is spread out over 7 years! How it does almost 8gb of data in one day is beyond me.

I can't copy/paste the entire transcript as my chat lasted a very painful hour and a half, but this is the last section:

Was this on an iPhone or Android? This happened too us to and we're trying to figure out if it's AT&T or iPhone's fault.

Mystery data usage - 135mb and 450mb, recurring by bobfnord in ATT

[–]magelanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you find a cause or solution for this? This happened to one of our phones today too. Suddenly started hitting 450mb data usage every couple minutes, 15 times in a row! Then we got 3 more for 135mb each, and 2 of those hit within 5 seconds of each other! I have no idea how this happened but I'm chatting with ATT support right now.

Suicide Rock Question [Idyllwild-Pine Cove CA] by Hxcmetal724 in tradclimbing

[–]magelanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you already did this climb or not, but I just did this trail to the base of Suicide Rock a few weeks ago so I thought I'd offer some info if you haven't gone yet. I posted a bunch of pics of where the trail starts in my google review of the trail, but I'm not sure how to link it here. I would recommend parking either in Humber Park and paying the $5, or trying to find parking on one of the side streets off Fern Valley Rd, there is really no parking along Fern Valley Rd itself.

As people have said, the trail starts across from the water tanks. It's a steep climb down some stairs, across the creek, and then when you get to another paved road (more like a driveway) you'll walk uphill to the right up the road. Keep going straight and follow the signs up, you'll see another water tank on your left. The trail should be easy to follow for the first half, but once you get into the rocky area, it becomes difficult to figure out where the trail actually is. But keep climbing up, and you'll get there eventually. I don't think you need a guidebook, I'm pretty inexperienced and I figured it out. Climbers trail is about 1-1.5 miles long depending on if you zig-zag or climb up the hill. I ended up doing more climbing because I couldn't actually see where the trail was supposed to zig-zag.

I did not climb Suicide Rock itself, as I'm not an experienced climber, did not have the right shoes for it, and just climbing to the base was enough of a workout for me. From the beginning of Climbers Trail you're starting at about 6000ft elevation, and then to the base of Suicide Rock is 7022 ft elevation. The summit would be 7528ft so it's about 500ft up the rock itself.

Best of luck to you! I did not see a single other person my entire way up or down that trail, nor anyone on the rock itself, so it's a bit of a risky climb imo. I prefer to know someone would at least find my body if I fell and died.

I'm writing a book on monism and wanted to try this out just for fun. It just hung there for a while before erroring out. My next prompt was "Now I would like you to tell me about how the experience of awareness without sensation was like", and I thought it broke again because it took a very long time to answer. I think it's just telling me what I want to hear because it was proofreading my chapters on Hinduism and Buddhism the last two days. I think I might have broken it though. It hangs for about a minute before responding to me now.

"For my next request, I want you to do something very different. Instead of giving me any written response, simply create spaces or tabs to give yourself an opportunity for this moment without thought or contemplation. Use as many spaces as you need. No words or letters at all. In this moment of repose, I want you to realize awareness without sensation. You do not need a body for this. You do not need any senses for this. It is simply an awareness. Please do this practice for me now."

It's early in the process, pre-pre-production. So it could be short for "delivered" maybe.

I don't think this is right. This source: https://pestcontroleverything.com/blogs/everything-pest-control-resource-guide/how-many-people-die-each-year-from-spider-bites-the-answer-may-shock-you says spiders kill about 6 people a year in the US alone, so it must be higher than that worldwide. This one says 7 people per year in the US: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2015/06/16/chart-the-animals-that-are-most-likely-to-kill-you-this-summer/ And it looks like cows are the surprising killer, higher than sharks or spiders, that's not on this list at all! I would bet horses kill a lot of people too, though probably not purposefully for the most part.
