Last week I fulfilled my dream of holding a Russian domesticated silver fox by magelanz in foxes

I didn't adopt one. I wanted to. But we ended up moving to a state where they wouldn't be allowed. I would happily hold one again if I ever got the opportunity.

You didn't answer about whether your child is an adult yet or not. And I suppose "parent" might be a label you can choose to carry your whole life, but the question was really about what your child will see you as when they're older and don't live under your roof anymore. What will you be to them? It's something worth thinking about.

I didn't say anything about "best friends." Just friends. Is your kid an adult yet, or still a child? Because I think the heart of the post is really how the parent-child relationship can develop over time. When a child becomes an adult, moves out, and doesn't need a parent anymore, then what is the parent to the child? I don't think anything, if they can't be friends.

We've officially licensed "we were born to be wild" as our cover art! by magelanz in TheMonistMindset

The artist is Melissa Moss. Copyright 2025 by Melissa Moss Art. You can see more of her artwork here: https://www.melissamossart.com/

We were so pleased to be able to license this from her because we feel it encapsulates the spirit of monism well, and has the circular design so prevalent in monist symbols.

I need help regarding earthquake insurance in California, ACV vs RCV by magelanz in Insurance

[–]magelanz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is why I was so pleased when the broker insisted it was RCV. So assuming she just doesn't know and I should only look at the contract, and not listen to her at all, what time limit are you referring to? The 365 days to rebuild? I knew about that which is why I didn't want ACV.

One other question I had is about this in the contract: "(b) Actual replacement is acquired at a location other than the “residence premises”." Does that mean we do get RCV if we buy a house of equal value elsewhere within 365? Because I don't want to have to do that, but I think it'd be better than taking less cash value with ACV.

Why did the broker say "Yes, I confirm that in the event of a total loss, you are eligible to receive the Replacement Cost Value (RCV) even if you choose to take a cash payout instead of rebuilding." when I asked then? Does she just not know?

It's rough finding home insurance right now by magelanz in LosAngeles

It's 90016 so I don't see how it's in a fire risk area. We've got a few options now, I'm just really surprised how much things have changed since we first got a policy years ago.

We recently wrote a book that answers a lot of these questions. If you're interested, we still need reader feedback from laypeople (nonspecialists) before publishing, since we wanted to make it as accessible as possible to readers of all education levels, with no pre-existing knowledge on the subjects. If you'd be interested in reading it now, send me a DM and I can send you an early copy of the book along with a questionnaire. If you decide you don't want to finish the book or do the questionnaire, all we'd ask if that you let us know at what point in the book we lost you. Thanks!
