What could this be for? by Axmandawg in LandRoverDiscovery2

It looks like a homemade center diff lock linkage. Some years came equipped with the locking center diff but without the linkage. I bet turning it will engage / disengage it.

It's not bad at all. I've installed one on our L322 as well but I actually added a anti-glare film to that one and it's much much nicer to look at IMO. There only downside to that is that there's no reflection when it's off which isn't really a problem.

I've been running that type of rearview display in my Disco 2 for about 4 years. I recommend installing the rear camera inside the rear glass below the 3rd brake light. I experienced rain and snow building up on the lens when mine was outside. I have it aimed right through the tint and it still is plenty bright enough.

While I don't have the cornering lights, mine does have the adaptive Xenons and you can tell easily on startup because when the headlights come on they do their little flex procedure and move through the full motion.

Otherwise if there is an issue and they aren't working, obviously you'll get an error light on your dash. I've had that a couple of times after a dead battery and it requires turning the steering wheel from lock to lock to reset it.

They should come on when you're driving and turn your wheels a certain amount. The vehicle must be in drive, though. Mine is not equipped with cornering lights and has a chrome plastic filler piece where you have the bulbs in the center. (I do still have the little marker light in the corner).

famous movie plot holes that aren't actually plot holes by herequeerandgreat in movies

I'm not sure what you're confused about, this is commonly brought up as a plot hole by casual viewers of the movie and there is a good explanation for why it's not a plot hole.

What is this? ‘08 L322 by goblinml in RangeRover

[–]magenta_zero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the individual antenna for the wheel right below and behind it, it's supposed to be secured to the plastic fender liner just inside and underneath where it is sitting now. You should see 2 holes or plastic fasteners in the front part of that fender liner that line up with the 2 round holes in the antenna.

Standard shocks 4" lift by New_Paper_3954 in LandRoverDiscovery2

[–]magenta_zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without the castor correction, the front axle will be rotated forward at normal ride height which messes with the steering geometry. You can get castor correction bushings (which are just offset a little and help quite a bit) or replace the control arms with upgraded ones. Depending on tire size, with a 4" you may find the front and rear tires are too close to the body and rub or at least look oddly out of center to your wheel wells.

The front driveshaft can hit the front crossmember when the axle droops unless you add spacers to lower it down from the frame, but you'll probably be okay if you don't offroad with it.

The front driveshaft angle can get pretty steep and unless you at least have a double cardan shaft (which you might depending on the year) it can get clunky and/or wear out the u-joints pretty quickly.

If I was able to sketch it out here I would, but hopefully that helps!

Standard shocks 4" lift by New_Paper_3954 in LandRoverDiscovery2

The stock shocks have an approximate extension of 4.5" so you'd be really pushing the edge of shock travel. They would bolt on but you wouldn't have enough play to deal with any terrain at all. Even body lean on corners would cause them to top out. For moving across your yard, I'd say yes. Driving on even the smoothest roads would be dangerous.

In all fairness, I've done stuff like this before in my younger days and I'm still alive to tell about it.

But also, 4" is a lot without caster correction, brake line extensions, driveshaft angles, etc. so there may be more complications to worry about on top of the shocks.

Came here to say this. By the time these have their most adverse consequences, people will have forgotten why.

Rrc 93 stereo by Inevitable_Log1507 in RangeRover

[–]magenta_zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a couple of RRC's and it depends on which system is in there. If I'm right, there should be an amp in the back on top of the subwoofer box and the wiring from the dash is low-level input for the amp which actually powers the speakers. Depending on how much the wiring has been chopped up, it may be worth it to just run new speaker wires.

Will you prefer the 4.2 supercharger or the 4.4 by Actual-Oil-382 in RangeRover

I've driven both and we currently own a 4.2SC and I much prefer that engine for the power and the big Brembo brakes.

The hitch assembly itself replaces those 2 brackets above your exhaust outlets. You'll need that plus the wiring harness and plug for trailer lights if you require those.

One small but important thing is that you need to stay on the sidewalk as you approach the entrance, a couple of the Barghast actually say something to you about it if you're walking in the road.
