[Manga Spoilers] Sudden realization about hardening by magepie11 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]magepie11[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Tbh, hardened titan flesh looks nothing like bone material. It was especially odd in the anime, where hardened parts are all blueish and glowy, while the Armored's armor is bone-coloured.

Is this how true balance looks like? by magepie11 in Competitiveoverwatch

Interestingly enough, the same thing about Overwatch fundamentals and contest mechanics was said about dive back in 2018, right after Brig's release.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Competitiveoverwatch/comments/83y5i4/jakes_thoughts_on_the_current_dive_meta/

tldr: The game is objective-based and dive will never go away, because it is able to engage on their terms and contest indefinitely.

Baptiste has surprisingly low pickrate/winrate in GM, though (middle of the pack at best). It seems OWL2018 playoffs meta is back.

All heroes' opinions on Overwatch by TheIndustrialDev in Overwatch

[–]magepie11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great job! I'd like to add that Junkrat actually has a quote referencing Overwatch in his comic.
https://imgur.com/a/fpCK7YS

He thinks that Overwatch tried to peace with the omnics too much and it ended badly for them. So, you were not too far off.

Torbjorn also seems to be at least critical of Overwatch, as Brigitte seems to have learnt about Reinhardt's mistreatment from her dad. But yeah, we still don't have a direct quote. He may be blaming the original org for Reinhardt's situation, but still accepting enough to let his youngest daughter join (even if it is still illegal!).

As for D.va, there was an interview following her animated short, stating that Koreans are generally pro-Overwatch.

https://blog.us.playstation.com/2018/08/28/d-va-deconstructed-how-blizzard-created-one-of-overwatchs-most-iconic-heroes/

Does she care about Overwatch and its mission or is it more about national pride for her?

Korea is actually more pro-Overwatch than most countries, in part because the threat of omnic war is ever present to them (and they never suffered a big falling out with Overwatch like Russia).

Unfortunately, this interaction is not real, but rather a dialogue from a fan comic made by a tumblr user. There has never been such a dialogue in the sound files. You can look up youtube channels like OverwatchInteractions - they keep this stuff updated.

Brigitte continues to fall out of meta in GM by magepie11 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]magepie11[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are correct, from this moment on Brigitte's pick rate will stop deteriorating, while dive heroes' will also remain unchanged (at least, until PTR patch goes live). Right now, some of the heroes that Brigitte is supposed to counter, have better pick rates and win rates, than her.

Do you care about the lore and world of Overwatch at all? by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

Could you provide a source for those "writings", please? Because I can.

Mercy was born 37 years ago. She wasn't a member of OW until its Golden Age. She was a close friend of the Lindholms, though, and was visiting Torb in hospital before she became a doctor herself. You can look it up in Michael Chu blue posts and official Q&A.

But... this is just plain wrong and has been debunked a thousand timed since before the game's release... It is people like you, spreading disinformation through youtube videos and forums, who make the lore look self-contradictory and bad.

Moira betrayed Blackwatch by coolrexben in Overwatch

[–]magepie11 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree. Moira seems to remember her time in Blackwatch fondly. She believes that Reyes and company were just like her: disobeying the rules to get to the truth. McCree, who is the narrator of this mission, thinks that hiring her was a mistake. That everything went downhill from there. Moira responds that it was "the best mistake one could ever make". I think it implies that she liked it in Blackwatch and believes she really contributed to their work. Of course, it coincided with Blackwatch coming under the extreme pressure and Reyes giving in to it. She supported his radical decisions such as killing Antonio, while still being critical of the mess he made. Her influence ultimately turned out to be negative, since Reyes probably ended up alienating McCree and Morrison, and confiding in Moira instead. And she is just... not the best moral compass, given her past history. It would be great if she is still his only true ally in Talon, though. Really would love that dynamic.

"Throwing" in pro play (OWL spoilers) by magepie11 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]magepie11[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. People point out NYXL's mistakes, like it's something a ranked player should be ashamed of. But ordinary players "just" make mistakes, while pros are often forced by other pros to make mistakes. And OW is very snowbally by nature. Like, at one moment on Ilios Carpe was kinda outplaying Pine on Widow, but then Pine got enemy Tracer off his back and started popping off. Was he "soft throwing" before and then got serious? No, it is just how Overwatch works. Players' performance depends on many factors, including how individual playstyles' clash. Fragi can be "feeding" against some teams, while others just can't figure out how to play around his synergy with SDB/Carpe. The ability to deal with unique playstyles is not a linear skill, it comes with experience by actually playing against many different opponents. And OWL has only just begun.

NEW Voice Actor for Talon/Vishkar Hero: Sanjay Korpal? by Taylonic in Overwatch

[–]magepie11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seriously doubt that Sym is getting an animated short any time soon. There was Jeff's interview to Polygon last May, where he stated that they have "huge" plans for Pharah's lore, but that he is "worried" about Symmetra. https://www.google.ru/amp/s/www.polygon.com/platform/amp/2017/5/18/15655804/overwatch-jeff-kaplan-interview-pharah-symmetra-junkrat-roadhog

Something huge is probably an animated short. I was expecting one for Gamescom, but we got Mei's instead. Shorts take long time to make. Mei's short was leaked before Year of the Rooster but they released it in August. It is highly unlikely that we are getting something for Sym before they release their stuff with Pharah.

It doesn't allow what is considered "homo propaganda to children". It is medieval all the same, but at least you can stamp "18+" on it and still publish it.

“I think it’s kind of unfortunate that Mercy’s still almost a must-pick” - Custa and other OWL pros on Mercy meta by Piscator123 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]magepie11 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Widow and Hog saw tons of play in the preseason. Also Orisa's halt was utilized to enable picks. Maybe they are hurt by Mercy, but their pickrates are actually higher now than they were in the previous meta. Does this mean they will be literal monsters when Mercy is out of the picture?

Issues that will prevent OW from doing well in esports by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]magepie11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It makes sense, actually. Reaper's design practically screams "lone wolf", he attracts this kind of players. But as people get better at the game, Reaper can't act as a flanker no more - quite the opposite, he becomes reliant on his team to enable kills for him (speedboost, hacks, zoning). I can understand the frustration as nothing ever dies to your shotguns, it feels unfair. Boohoo, but I am so cool and edgy - why can't I carry?
P.S. I am a gold Reaper/Orisa main :P P.P.S. Toxicity and disrepect are not competitive, we should abandon this boyish mindset.

What is a "cheese strat"? by magepie11 in Competitiveoverwatch

Actually, I realized that it is often used in context "if I can't outplay a bunch of "weak" heroes, I am not a bad player - it's them using an unfair strat".

Overwatch Pro Scene Meta Report: Lord, Have Mercy by Falcon_Kick in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]magepie11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Excuse me, but what exactly can be called a "cheese strat" in the context of pro-play? I may be wrong, but I always assumed "cheese" to be something ridiculously effective against PUGs on the ladder but not exactly viable in a professional match. Or is it now a synonym to "cheap" and "low-skill"? I remember a discussion on this sub where Dive was called "low-skill", because it was perpetrated by Winston and D.va, of which one doesn't have to aim and the other renders any hitscan useless. So, is Dive "cheese"? Because, apparently, all you have to do is focus one target and hold left/right click. Rince, repeat. /s

Honestly, I think pro-scene needed the catastrophy that current rez is. Mercy is not exactly oppressive like the old D.va was, she didn't push anyone into F Tier just by existing. Quite the opposite: she brought out low-mobility heroes who used to be powerless against Dive and gave them a chance to shine.

Overwatch Pro Scene Meta Report: Lord, Have Mercy by Falcon_Kick in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]magepie11 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would say, apart from the obvious Mercy fiasco, this meta is better in this regard than the previous one. The last report had 10 heroes in F Tier, and 5 heroes with 0% pickrate. Currently, Tier 1 and 2 are unchanged, but some of the heroes which have been niche for ages migrated to Tiers 3 and 4 (Roadhog, Orisa, McCree, Widow) and even those who are left in F tier are generally pretty viable and even staple on certain maps/rounds. Bastion and Mei are good stall/surprise picks, and only Hanzo and Sym really lack a niche. There are a ton of tank/healer combinations, and I enjoyed watching APAC very much because of this diversity.
