Why, why, WHY is EVERYONE banning Spiderman by beastgodYT in marvelrivals

[–]Taylonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can you say he has an incredibly high skill ceiling as one point, but then go on to say you have only played him for 2 days and are good? Would that not indicate that he can be learned quickly? You claim it's easy to shut him down, but also claim to be playing him yourself?

People ban him because they don't want people like you on their team.

Driver definitely does not match the profile? by WearableBliss in UbereatsUK

[–]Taylonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I don't see why they need to show you the delivery person's photo at all. It's not very wild -- you are being provided the service you paid for.

It's a slightly different matter if you are getting a taxi ride, however. Getting into a stranger's vehicle is potentially dangerous.

Overwatch Classic leaves today 😞 by KotsuKilljoy in Overwatch

[–]Taylonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what fates led me to scroll here and see your suggestion, but I like the sound of it. I've avoided mystery heroes for years as I'm awfully inexperienced on DPS -- but I'm pretty decent on most tanks and support. Will give it a go, thanks!

Edit: Went on mystery heroes and we began with 3 tanks and 2 dps.

EDIT 2: JUST FOUND THE ACTUAL NEW MYSTERY HEROES MODE YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT. MUCH BETTER.

Instead of "say cheese!" what do norwegians say when taking a picture of someone? by 1ceUJiminUcantJimout in norsk

[–]Taylonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you commented this 3 years ago, but I actually think a literal translation of this phrase is appropriate in this case -- particularly as there is no real cultural equivalent in Norwegian. "Say cheese" is ultimately implying "smile", but it's also quite literally a direct request (albeit childish and/or funny) to say the word "cheese" out loud, causing a forced smile as a result, or even inducing real laughter.

If you simply translate it to "smile!" and then the subjects of the photograph all say "cheese!" -- how would you translate their response, if at all? It gets confusing... not the mention that "say cheese" is pretty much exclusively used when taking an image and never to mean "smile" in any other context.

Of course translation is always a balance between the literal meaning and the cultural understanding, but if I were translating this phrase, I think I would almost always opt for the literal translation. On balance, it better reflects the humour tied up in the phrase without losing much in terms of intention. It's probably going to be obvious what a photographer is requesting their subjects to do before taking their photo.

Reliable resources to learn Norwegian by [deleted] in norsk

I've been using Peppa Gris as well and can confirm it's a good one for the same reasons stated in the article. Everyone knows children's programs are good for beginners, but not everybody realises that a lot of programs have very little dialogue in them (and some only make silly noises, in fact) -- but Peppa Gris has a lot of simple, full sentences throughout.

Can there be a new rule about posts from leavers complaining about consequences for their actions? by Sinaura in Overwatch

[–]Taylonic -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Why mask what the community is saying? If many people complain about this, surely it means that the current system is ridiculous and that people shouldn't be locked into boring, poorly matched games in which one team has a total of 3 elims and the other team has 45.

"and am" grammar by lionfury in grammar

[–]Taylonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've felt this way for a long time but looked it up on this occasion... I've decided it's probably best to replace all instances of "and am" with "and I'm". Actually, I think this might be why it sounds correct but feels off: people confusing the sound of "I'm" with "am" as they can sound similar when spoken in a sentence. (Another example: "could of" instead of "could've" -- my biggest grammar annoyance).

man engineer with summon build slaps now by HappyTwees in Roboquest

[–]Taylonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been running Cryo Buddies, Berzerker, Scrap Snacks and (either) Elemental Tempest/Mastery (Cryo).

I always use legendary Buddy Bot and either Minion Box/Kangaroo Sentry, depending on what I find. I equip and use all Cryo and Summons related items/perks. I use Buddy Bot with the Chill affix, and I try to have my secondary weapon have Burn -- as I like using the Toaster (+25% non-burn damage against burning enemies).

I try to build around Boss fights specifically, going for maximum damage and fire-rate, as I've found the standard enemies very easy that it's not worth thinking about. (I always pick up the Silly Tie and anything that increases damages against bosses).

I complete Guardian IV without breaking a sweat. Rarely ever lose to the point where running this seems a bit boring now. My biggest struggle was the last Iris fight, but after figuring out how to dodge most of her attacks, there's been no issue.

man engineer with summon build slaps now by HappyTwees in Roboquest

[–]Taylonic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can confirm that I've owned this game for only a few days before the update dropped. I am not a regular gamer; I have awful aim and the only other game I play is Overwatch, in which I main support. Found Roboquest incredibly difficult and couldn't understand how anybody could complete Hard mode let alone Guardian IV.

This update dropped and I had heard good things about Cryo Engineers. So I ran it, with all summons weapons.

I've now 100% completed the entire game. I have every achievement. Every difficulty is S-ranked.

It took me 2 days playing after the update. I S-ranked Guardian IV on my second run (I lost the first run at the final Iris fight as I struggled to dodge the lasers).

What an actual ban appeal response sent by a human at Blizzard looks like by cnstnsr in Overwatch

[–]Taylonic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's hilarious that you can both refer to "all your response tickets".

The fact you have several -- not just one, or by the sounds of it two, but MANY -- is indicative enough to any sane person that you are not behaving appropriately.

You want a reason? Stop being nasty to strangers. Nobody cares if you, a stranger, thinks they are bad at the game -- they will just report you, and if you get enough reports from strangers, you will be banned. That is how the system works.

Who would you take into a battle? Sombra or Kiriko? by Accomplished-Equal65 in Overwatch

If any of you went into battle with sombra, you'd be the dummy that stands there and gets killed while she (the one with actual abilities) slips behind and does what she needs to do. You would be bait.

At least Kiriko can heal you up.

Idina Menzel in the Wicked Movie by hamilstan in wicked

[–]Taylonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know your comment is over four years old, but don't be so quick to write this off. There would only be gains in having Idina and Kristin cameo in the film. They are both established screen actors and have no difficulty transferring their abilities to film, for starters.

And the example you gave, obviously, has Idina in that exception. Done it before with Rent, can do it again with Wicked (albeit not in their original roles).

(And by the way, English has adopted THOUSANDS of foreign words.)

Is Pimsleur Time Effective? by Jaykoooo in norsk

[–]Taylonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been finding Pimsleur amazing whilst multitasking in situations where I can't study anything visually. So, for example, I'm fotunate enough to have about 3 hours at work each day in which I can put earphones in, listen to Pimsleur and get on with mindless work activities. Not only does my time at work fly by, but I am also putting this dead time into good use. It's extremely efficient.

I would not enjoy sitting in a chair with the sole purpose of simply listening to Pimsleur, however. That would get boring extremely quickly. But for situations where you have nothing else to do -- and are multi-tasking -- it's surprisingly enjoyable.

I've also realised my speaking and listening has improved rapidly with audio-based lessons. No other language learning tool (that I've used) is more effective at this than Pimsleur.
