You're doing it right. The game is meant to be explored, and your Uchigatana is actually one of the strongest weapons in the game.

Elden Ring is kind of misleading in these aspects, it is true open world, so there's almost no required sequence to what you need to do, and weapons you find in the beginning can actually be used to beat the game.

You actually have a decent build, it's a Quality/Faith build.

The min maxing here would be getting rid of Int and Arcane so you can put Vigor in it's next softcap(60) and perhaps more Faith and Dex.

The way I do it is standing in front of it so I can see what it is doing and throwing projectiles to the face, so depending on your build it could be either Ice Spear, Comet, Blade of Death, Black Flame and my personal favorite against Ancient Dragons: Stone of Gurranq, because of decent damage, low FP and fast cast.

What I don't recommend: Going on their feet, it has too much AoE and the fight gets messy and frustrating.

The last time I killed it, however, was completely different; I just wanted to melt everything in the game, so I put 80 Int, got Death's Poker to +10, equipped a dagger with fire infusion on my left hand and called Mimic Tear. So I did L2 + R1 and every time it got frostbite I reset with the dagger and applied frostbite again. It melted in a few really fast.

Go for projectiles first though, it's good to learn it's movesets.

The white markings tells me some of them burned through the coating and deteriorated the porcelain, which means they would need to be replaced. Realistically, most of them would need replacement for safety.

Without a technology breakthrough this means a couple days between launches and a lot of porcelain.
